Robin Linden: We should have a way that you can manually reset your password, even if you don't remember your security question, later this evening. Our web team has not gone home, but is rebuilding the security validation as I write.

Oh my LAWD! They're doin somethin about it!! Hey, Robin. Can you answer the question of whether the massive user upset expressed here in the forums (and spread to other sites like DIGG, SLASHDOT, BOINGBOING) had anything to do with the decision to keep the web team working?

If the answer is yes, then the forums MUST not be closed. The forums have then proved their worth to the community.

And I'm also delighted to point out that the announcement that a solution was being developed before Monday was posted first... wait for it... on the forums. Not the BLOG.

If you look at the amount of desperate and scared posts in the general section and the fact that the forum community were the ones helping while the blog was silence and the phone lines to LL were closed I think that ALONE shows the value of these areas of the forums to the community at large.

Most of the info I have gotten today has been here. I learned some things about the process, what a hacker could and could not do with the info and other things that were NOT on the blog.

LL you OWE it to us after all we have been through lately to give us our resident areas. It is the least that could be done. Though I very much appreciate that LL is working overtime on getting all this fixed it is still just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the encrypted credit card info, paypal info and my personal UNencrypted info being exposed and possibly on some jack asses computer somewhere. If this forum had not been here there would have been no meeting place for us to as a community come together and work through this.

If you close these now there is not much hope left for you in the Customer Service realm when the coummunity had to do much of the tech support and FAQ stuff here WAY before the email was sent or that announcement was made. Imagine a scared SL community with no where to turn without this forum. Think I am exaggerating? Think again..

If you close these now there is not much hope left for you in the Customer Service realm when the coummunity had to do much of the tech support and FAQ stuff here WAY before the email was sent or that announcement was made. Imagine a scared SL community with no where to turn without this forum. Think I am exaggerating? Think again..
