We've all laughed at the box on the head, especially when we've done it after being here awhile. But what about "box on the head" syndrome on a grand scale. Have you ever flung a house into the next sim? Clicked Return All by accident?

Confession is good for the soul.

*enters confessional*

On of the most tardesque things I ever did was right after we moved from Riiki to Chaos island. Part of the move was building a new store and cajoling, begging, blackmailing, and sometimes hounding :D our talented and busy vendors to come set up. Finally! 99% of everyone is set up and things are looking good.... (you know this won't end well)

I get an IM asking for something in my inventory, so I start rezzing items to make sure I have the right one. I'm standing line-of-sight to the shop btw. One of the items is HUGE and rezzes unlinked, so I drag a box to select it and delete it.... AND.... you guessed it, deleted 3/4ths of the shop. :(

Suffice to say that after Ferran got tired of chasing me with the chainsaw, I had to send everyone a very apologetic IM asking them to come reset up. Everyone was very sweet about and I only get teased about once a year now.

I deleted the grid.
Thank god for Ctrl-Z, though it took while.

I just pulled a boner today.

Business meeting. Way too early. Trying to find object in inventory. Pulled out "Object", hoping it was the right one, considering the time placement of it among all the other crap in there...

...it wasn't the little box I was looking for. It was a backup of our new store. Suddenly rezzed in a small conference room.

I muttered "oh christ" over Skype while I furiously deleted. Thankfully everyone else was gracious enough not to mention it.

Always name your grouped items.

Forgetting to select Select Texture, and retexturing a build I'd just spent hours texturing, clear glass.

Everything I've ever created is named 'Object'. These types of things are a frequent occurence for me. I'll never learn. At least I keep myself busy and off kilter, though.

Hawt.

Sorry... had to.

But yeah. Deleted the whole damn building. Many times over. When will I ever learn? Oh, and that uncanny knack I have for sending prims sailing across sims, never to be seen (by me) again.

Rezzing with the wrong group active
05-11-2006 13:21
Autoreturn bites me, even now.

I rez something and start working on it. Have a eureka moment. Get really excited. Then the whole thing disappears and my screen fills with return messages because I had the wrong group active on land with autoreturn.

Deleting my house by mistake. ("Oh, so that's what Lock is for!";)

Oh, and:

Yumi Murakami: Had a huge amount of hassle with the queue manager script...
Older Wiser: Queue manager? What do you mean?
Yumi Murakami: You know, to hold the e-mails that are going to be sent out, so the link messages don't get lost during the 20 second sleep.
Older Wiser: Um, Yumi, link messages are events, you know?
Yumi Murakami: (nod)
Older Wiser: And events are stored in the..
Yumi Murakami: The Event Queu.... oh drat.

When I was new:

Spending a few hours making a lovely little plane and then accidentally unlinking it while physics were still enabled and watching it explode all over the Morris sandbox.

For approx 10 seconds I just stared at my monitor while I tried to work out if what I had just done was really funny or really sad. Should I laugh or should I cry? I couldn't decide which, so I ended up doing both.

It definitely marked me.

My Companion and I once managed to make about 1/3 of our rather large house vanish. I mean completely into oblivion. Not in the trash, not in lost and found, not returned... just... gone! We were looking a a cool pair of swords, and clicked on them to put them back in inventory. At least that was what we tried to do. The swords remained, and a large chunk of the house ceased to exist! Never did quite figure out why, or if it was something I did or something she did... I'm suspecting that that section of the house didn't have a descriptive name, and we couldn't tell what it was...

Thank the powers that be that we had a backup copy!

I just recently managed to inadvertantly take a whole house into inventory, leaving the doors, furnishings, and the water from the bathtub hanging in mid air. Was trying to select an item on the floor, and apparently selected the floor instead... Had a real fun time re-rezzing the house and lining it up exactly where it had ben moments before...

And this from someone who has just finished building two whole sims, with over 20 homes each on them!

Accidents happen...

Not 1, not 2, not even 3, But FIVE times i've managed to get something stuck under my house, and then managing to delete the entire house as a result.

Thank god for backups :o

Oy, me too (and probably a billion other builders XD). Once I lost a whole wing of a motel I was positioning; one second there, the next...just gone. I paled and searched for it, couldn't find the dratted thing.

A day or so later I get an IM from a neighbor a sim away; it had lodged itself quite snugly in someone's house and front yard. x_x

But probably the best act of tardity ever on my part would be the time when I somehow...to this day I'm not sure how it happened...managed to duplicate an UNLINKED build in its entirety no less than six times. Wasn't initially obvious either because, yes, all the dupes were in the exact same place.

Oh yeah, *that* was fun to clean up.

When I finally turned on Shiny Objects, I realized I had my whole house, store, displays, furniture on High Shiny. The "I'm going blind!" comments from people finally made sense. :o

I have a lot of these. More than I have time to retell. I also am very accident prone IRL, go figure...

One of the worst has to be the time I teleported to a no-script sandbox and sat there for what was at least 5 minutes trying to figure out why my script wasn't working.

And then there's about a week ago, was visiting a friend and meeting their friends, and I got the bright idea that I'd show them a 1/2 finished project. Of course, the version I manually rezzed then proceeded to not grab the right start-param it was supposed to be rezzed with, and proceeded to shout vectors and rotations on channel 0 every 1 second. Yah, I'm great with first impressions too, go figure...

(Rezzes a brick wall behind himself, then turns around and walks into it)

my most tardish moment did not start as a build stuation but it ended up as one.

My partner and I had hopped in the hot tub and were going to have a little fun when I realised my parts were missing. THey had been there now they were not.

We spent the next 4 hours taking the entire castle apart prim by prim looking for them. Looked underground, in the sky, all over the sim.

Finally went and got another set and rebuilt the castle.

Couple of weeks later they turned up in my lost and found returned by a very female named AV from 2 sims over.
