Hi Friends!

If you are a Texture Maker user you will be happy to hear that I've started a new group for you; TM Users!

All Texture Maker users are encouraged to join the group; it's free.

This group will share textures created in TM and how those textures are made. People that DO NOT want to share should probably not join. As the main reason for this group is to help educate other TM users in Second Life.

If you are interested in getting Texture Maker, head over to www.texturemaker.com to download a limited free version. You can also purchase the FULL version for around $69 USD.

Lastly, the group has access to a Ventrilo Server, so we can hold "Texture Parties" and all be on voice while a member of the group walks us through how to make their favorite texture.

Thanks!

I have just discovered Texture Maker. It's awsome! How many members in the TM User group so far? How many people in SL actually use it for their creation?

I bought the personal version and started playing with it. I also found numerous good tutorials for it. I created a flagstone texture in about 1/2 hour after installing the program. Perfectly seamless textures the easy way. I love the extraction feature that allows you to take any old digital picture and extract a texture from it. It will also correct the perspective distortion and equalize the lighting. I made an antique oriental door texture in about 5 min, something I have tried to do for months with PS and gave up...

Now, if you are member of the TM User group, are you obligated to share all your textures or just the ones you feel should be public domain?

I can finally create all the finely detailed textures for my buildings, and I can promise they will blow your mind....

Hey Claire! So, how is texture maker different from any other graphic editors?

Just in passing, have you ever tried to create a seamless texture in PS or PSP?
Or take a picture of a house with tiled roof, extract a section of said roof, correct for perspective, and transform into a seamless texture for tiled roof...?
All under 10 minutes? Without headaches or a 3 year doctorate in PS editing...

Just my 2 cents...

I'm not affiliated with Texture Maker or any other graphic editors.

Greetings Pratyeka and congratulations on finding what I consider the best Texture Producing product ever made! Texture Maker is a professional texture making tool, and as you will discover, Texture Maker has many tools that will allow you to create textures you thought were not possible, until now of course!

Now, as for the TM Users group, while I encourage everyone to share their discoveries, it's not something you must do. The reason I ask others to share their work is merely to help others learn different aspects of this wonderful tool. I am more then happy to show everyone how I make any of my creations, so I hope others too will be happy to share how they have made their creations.

Feel free to join the TM Users group, and as soon as I clear my latest project, I will be holding a TM Users group meeting through VENTRILO. You can get the VENTRILO software at www.ventrilo.com, you need only the client version, unless of course you are going to run your own communications server.

Thanks!

Will join the group tonight when I get home.

It would be nice to find tutorials updated for version 3 of TM.

Nevertheless, those available are excellent, and still applicable for the v.3

Looking forward to the first meeting.

Has anyone played with Genetica? It's very similar I bet. I have not seen Texture Maker yet however. There is a free version for called Wood Workshop that just deals with making seamless wood textures. Both are really good for atrophying PS skills. :)

But actually making seamless textures in PS isn't that... hard. Someone sent me some guides before (back with PS 6?) and I wonder if it possible to automate the process with CS2.

I agree that with the proper plugins, doing seamless textures in PS is not rocket science. But the results are far less quality than Texture Makers, and the plethora of effects and bells and whistles in TM makes the job fast, easy and totally awsome. There's a free demo version available, with all the functions of the basic version, except you can't save your work.

By the look of it, Genetica is more technical (its interface reminded me of Visual Jockey or The Product) whereas Texture Maker is a bit more like a conventional art package. TM has a lot of similar tools, but you just apply them yourself however you want, instead of putting them into a sequence that the computer applies for you.

It only takes the click of a button in PSP to make something seamless. I guess I don't see the point in paying 60 USD for a program that just makes an image seamless.

I will check it out though, maybe I am missing something.

limited saves to 400x400 ( i think) but fine for tiles ... look @ the top of the DL page, its worth the free download if your doing something personal

ohh and theres another freeware texturemaker bout half way down the DL section :)

all of these tho, are much more of a pain in the butt than genetica, but the pro version of that is 200 bucks (for whoever asked, they can accomplish simmilar results)
