Downloaded Firefox 1.5 at work today, got the Adbock extension, and used it to block the header image at the top of these forums.

Sweet!

Nope, it blocks "http://secondlife.com/forums/images/hdr_avs.jpg"

I have seen that picture thousands of times. Enough is too much.

It makes the page look much less silly for browsing the forums at work.

It should also work to block specific images in signatures, which would be nice in some cases.

For the header images it just snipped the space out of the display so there isn't an ugly gap.

Cool. My work, on the other hand, if I tried to install ANYTHING, a swat team would drop out of the ventillation system and hit me with a rolled up newspaper, I'm luck I'm able to post (supposedly) under their radar. ;P

LOL Logan. Its my team at work that enforces that :D

We lock all our PC's down tight with Zenworks - can't even see your C: drive. If you want to install something, an approved 'package' has to be created for it first.

Since doing it, the amount of staffing we need on our Desktop team has been reduced down to about a quarter of what it was.

Give them all macs and you wont have to worry about what anyone installs. :)

Um, wait, do you work for the same company as me? And if so, you are aware that I can get to my C: drive by going Start>Run>C: , right? ;)

Creatively, I wonder if Firefox 1.5 could not just REMOVE graphics, but randomly replace them with others? Could come up with your own customized secondlife.com banners that way!

Heh, nope. It's kinda sad, without getting to detailed, I work for a very large company, and if someone does accidentally find a way to install adware/popupblocker/whatever, they have to open a support ticket and wait days to get it manually removed, have someone remote into their machine. As a result, I have an old copy of msconfig hidden on a network drive so I can fix it for them without waiting forever through the proper channels... Still waiting for the swat team to drop through the ceiling and tell me I'm not allowed to do that either. ;P

Well, depending on your setup, this trick might be useless, but...

If you've already got access to your C: drive, check under c:\winnt\system32

There's a bunch of files in there with a .CPL extention - those are all the individual Windows Control Panel applets. If you double-click on "appwiz.cpl" - that should get you into add/remove programs even if its locked down. :)

Then again, the microchip your company installed in your brain at orientation might alert the swat team as soon as you think about doing this :D

Only works in certain areas, doing this to our developer team would even reduce it to about zero quarter of what it was ;)

To stay on topic, i 'adblocked' about half of the SL site that way.
Still trying to get that big personal office as the final solution to that problem. Except this forum browsing isn't really helping much in that respect ;)
