Nice new residents might like to have a simple list of our way of approaching things in SL.
1. Don't teleport to a friend without first asking if it's all right.
2. Don't send an offer of a teleport unless you have IMed to say why you are doing it.
3. Don't immediately offer friendship to everyone you meet.
3. Delete your stray prims that you have rezzed so you don't litter.
4. When someone is talking to you don't wander away from your keyboard without saying something.
5. Don't beg.
I like to help new people get a start in Second Life, but I do occasionally wonder if some people think I'm sitting in front of my computer doing nothing, just waiting for a blue notice to pop down or for someone to land on my head.

(9) Put the gun/sword/phaser etc DOWN - It annoys people, and others will introduce you to "orbit" if you Teleport into their house toting a canon.

10) Relax about visible weapon objects a little. Take a deep breath, let it out slowly, and remember that many times, they're just parts of costumes and completely harmless, while many other times, the real weapons are invisible anyway.
