Well, I wanted to formally announce the opening of the SL version of the caves of Lascaux! I have meticulously downloaded the textures for the cave paintings and built a cave with a claustrophobic, twisty tunnel leading to a master chamber full of cave paintings from pre-historic cultures around the globe! If you've ever wanted to go spelunking in SL, now's your chance! Feedback appreciated.

You might need mouselook mode to navigate the tunnels, they're pretty tight!

Unless you play camera tricks, there is only one way into the cave -> a secret tunnel! The clue to finding the tunnel is to look for the rock with the cave painting on it... Please come check it out, and bring friends!

You can search the classifieds for lascaux or caves. The location is Modesta 98, 61, 58.

Biz :)

PS, if you stop by, please feel free to leave a shout-out in the thread!

I love it!

It was grandly primitive and the fact it felt a little moody and challenging was perfect. It would be a perfect spot for a thoughtful paleopagan ritual.

Or just to meditate on the awesomeness of it all.

The Romans said that ancient German boys had to kill an aurochs before they would be accepted as men. Looking into the eye of that ancient and so finely drawn buffalo, I was truly impressed. Men's business indeed.

The aurochs is extinct, but the bison is not... food for thought on the spiritual plane, yes no?

Heh...I didn't even try; I just teleported right out.

I had enough problems getting in, and that's with the creator leading the way :D

Caves? Are there any bats? I don't like bats. They don't like me either.

Sounds great and I'd love to see it ... but I get really twitchy in those confined spaces ...

And its funny, cause I (the me behind the keyboard) dont think I'm particularly claustrophobic out here ..

Anyway, it sounds like a fabulous build :)

I had to make lots of adjustments to the tunnel into the cave. I really wanted to achieve realism, but I know lots of people have a hard time navigating and didn't want people to just give up.

Much of the time, I am hanging out and show people the way in. Quite a few, however, have managed to find their own way in! I lit the path with candles and made the ground texture different from the walls, so you can pretty much just follow the floor and the candles and you'll get to the main cavern. I still overhear people in the tunnel saying they're lost.

It has been a wonderful experience building the cave. One lady's daughter has actually been to the real caves. I did not realize they're closed to the public and available archaeologists only.

Thanks everyone for your support and positive responses! Please stop by any time and hang out! I think I'm going to make some rock-climbing animations for the cave. That would be really fun! I'm going to add an underground spring and stream as well.

I went by last night and didn't have any trouble finding the main cave. It was a bit tricky in places, but that was part of the fun. I ended up falling into the main cave and couldn't find the tunnel to get back out. No biggie though, I took my time and looked around then just tp'd home when I was done.

Very nice, I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks =)
