To wit: Compare SL's forums today with SL's forums 2 years ago (smaller community by a factor of almost 100)

To better wit: Compare SomethingAwful's forums with SL's forums.

To best wit: Compare a busy Counterstrike forum with SL's forums.

Ms Joy..thank you for starting this..i have been tryin for several days now to think of a way to say what you did so simply..it has really started to depress me to read these this week and yet i am drawn to them and cannot not read them....When you start seeing peope get insulted for giveing soem one that they normally disagree with..for paying them a honest compliment..i think it is time for people to stop and think and re evaluate their motivation...
Sighs...i see peopel i like and respect saying things in here that i am shocked and dismayed about, even if it is in defence of someone, it is not ok to become viscious yourself!..i belive very strongly in debate, heated debate even arguement..but the personlization of the attacks here are shocking. i have caught myself this week succumbing to the dark side and posting rebuttals and starting to get nastier..so i understand how some one can have their button's pushed, but i guess i will use teh same line i hear inworld...remember..there is a real person behind that post you may dissagree with them but there is no reason to make it so personal.
and i know this is spitting in teh wind..the ones who live to be negitive will continue to be..oh well i genuinely feel sorry for anyone that filled with bile..
i guess we should all follow that old rule..Treat others as you would have others treat you!
remember..we all have at least one thing in common..the enjoyment of SL

Joy, it's a wonderful sentiment, but I wouldn't get my hopes up if I were you.

The fact of our virtual lives is that there are no real negative consequences for horrendus behavior provided you stay within TOS. Lies, harassment, insults, conspiracy theories, rumor mongering and trolling are not barriers to success in SL, indeed they appear to be part of a perfectly acceptable PATH to success.

As new users begin to realize that a career in ranting allows for all the benefits of rapid exposure via controversy without the business consequences of a suffering reputation, you are going to see them practically competing for the "top troll" title.
