your favorite avatars and how you got them

hey im trying to find a good avatar, one that looks good, and would cost somewhere between free- L$10 (preferably free). even if it cost you more than 10, feel free to post. also, post where you got it!

I've been wearing same Avatar I created 2 weeks after I landed here.

It's inspired by my cat Grimalkin. I digitally skinned her, there is more then one way to skin a cat you know. Photo-shopped that into a skin, then add a tail and ears and became her. Total cost about 100L, would have been only 30L if I had a better knowledge of how to make skin and clothes. But hey, I was a newbie. Later I added the Crown and the title Queen of all Cats, because that how my RL cats refer to me every time I feed, water, pet change litter, open doors, give treats and toys etc. Oh wait I may have mistranslated, their mews it seems “meow-meu” has 2 meanings, either Queen of all Cats or Slave to all Cats.

Any how if I knew how to post a picture I would.

Chingchong, for heaven's sake, reading your post actually cost me more than L$10! Tell us specifically what you are looking for and maybe we can help. But don't be so cheap ... $L10 is about three cents.

my cheetah avatar's skin cost me about 800L$

worth every penny, got it on mysecond day, still use it now.

as for low cost, i managed t peice together an outfit or two out of free stuff and its still considered good but slightly under textured looking.

my avatar shape was a freebie that could be modified, so i messed with that.. and right now my fav skin is from boneflower which was around 1000 i think..

your quite clever.. i can't seem to make anything but a low prim house..lol

My usual outfit was L$250 - but that was for the boots only

A good av costs a hell of a lot more than $10L, there are free av shapes and clothing in your Library in your inventory that you can play with for a start, but my av I wear every day, I made the shape, spent at least $500L on my skin and about $1000L per outfit for hair and clothing

Can't help. I made my avatar. Total upload costs for the 4 textures (head, upper body, lower body, eyes) are probably in the ballpark of L$300.

I wanted a natural, more realistic, good but unglamorous look. After looking through SLExchange and everywhere I went in-world I knew that I wouldn't be able to buy an avatar with just the look I want.

But you can make a decent avatar for free with just the sliders. It only costs patience (and some good reference photos).

I did a search under all for sci-fi, it was one of the places on that list. Just do the same search and visit them one at a time, you will find it (It was aboave Galaxy, that is all I can tell you, just can not recall how far above).

you would be surprised how you can take your newbie form and tweak it to be nice...my avatar was made for me by someone i love dearly and he took a long time to make her...shes the same one i have since oct 2005 when i came here....if you need help just Im me in world and ill help if i can...my alt cost me 1500 to make and shes beautiful but i prefer the hand made av my sweetheart made for me even tho hes gone from game now...its my part of him that will always be mine...

You seriously do not need to spend money on getting a ood look (yeah this from the guy that spent L$2350 on Daleks). I only forked out L$250 on boots because I wanted somethng that looked like a pair of New Rocks.

For 10L and under I'd say you'd have to either get a free avatar at a newbie place or make your own.

My favorite avatar is just a regular human av and she is a combination of hand-made items (shirt, hat, shape, skin, underwear, bracelet), freebie items (pants), and purchased items (hair, eyes, shoes).

My avatar consists of bits and pieces I've gathered over my year in sl. Although Ive made small changes theres one shape Ive had nearly my entire sl. I have TONS of hair but have one hair style I wear 95% of the time that is constructed by parts from 3 seperate hair styles (one part from the hair I bought my 2nd day in sl). I don't know about you guys but I've seemed to grown a connection with this paticular avi and its the one I associate with most as "Me". It's the one I feel comfy in.

Snoopy for free! i can't remember where I got it but I know lots of different places have it available. Very cute!

My shape was $20 at a yard sale along with four others, my skin was $100 but I can't remember where and my clothes / hair all come from ETD (except for my favourite, most realistic flexiskirt, which came with a ton of other goodies for $20 from another store I can't remember the name of).

I don't think I spent more than $200 on my av, and it's the only one I've had and use.

Uh, self shameless promotion, I sell some nice furry avatars for 420 each. XD
And I made one pair a freebie.

But heck, I have too many avatars to count. My favorite one is one I made custom for myself, and became my "main form."

I've got a black cat avatar I can send ya. Was made by someone who got sick of seeing the ringtail as the only good free furry av (which is now in the library).

Edit: BTW, Kira, lemme see what you've got... if they're worth it, I might get a tiger from ya. :3

Best thing you can do is learn to build, really.

My favorite avatars? I love Daryth Kennedy's wyrms (ranging from over a thou' for a hatching, to 2200 for a wyrmling, to 3500 for a fullsized dragon). Luskwood and Lost Furest are always fun.

And then there're the C&C avatars so reasonably priced at 500L...

My cherub. I made him, and folks made the wings and harp for me to wear.
