Can anyone help me figgure out how to play music from my home into SL? Someone told me it was possible to somehow get the IP address and port number from my system, and pipe it into SL through a program like media player, so I could say.. hold a party or whatever with songs I want to play. Anyone know how? Thanks. ^.^

Anyone know how? Thanks. ^.^ Quick how to: 1) Install WinAmp 2) Install the JetCast plugin for WinAmp 3) Go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ 4) Enter http://<your ip from above>:9000/ as your land media stream. 5) Configure 'Port Forwarding' or 'Applications and Gaming' or whatever it's called on your router/modem to forward port 9000 (TCP) to your local IP. 6) To get your local IP, go to Start->Run, type 'cmd' and enter, then type 'ipconfig' and enter. 7) Click the On-Air button in JetCast and play whatever you like in WinAmp. _____________________

Thanks Karsten. I had recently been wondering the same thing and hopefully that's what I need.
Any idea how much upload bandwidth you need if you have 2-5 people max on your parcel? Wendel |

Any idea how much upload bandwidth you need if you have 2-5 people max on your parcel? Too much You'll have to use a server very soon.If you transmit at 64 kbps (which is a low-medium, but about acceptable quality for music), one stream will take about 64kbps (about 6 kbyte/sec) from your upload bandwidth. So if you have 128kbit upload speed, you can't really support more than one-two stream. If you get a streaming server (space) with better bandwidth, you can upload ONE stream, and the server will broadcast to the other ppl (many ppl). |
