Thats the lowest level of detail that the avatars render at. looks awful close up, but makes them not so resource-heavy when viewed from a distance.
 Might want to hit ctrl P to open your properties, and make sure your avatar detail slider is turned up. when i have it down at the lowest setting, i see this a lot. also in the Debug menu, you can disable the level-of-detail on charachters entirely. Debug/Charachter/Disable LOD unfortunately changing it in debug has to be done every time you log out and log back in, as the setting doesnt remain through relogging. hope that helps *shiver* that is one creepy effect, though  _____________________
