Well it seems that the people going nuts with flexiprims and lights are not the only ones taking advantage of 1.10's newest features. Several vendors have had their vending machines and individual items covered up with the classic invisible prim over the vendor scam, now scripted with Fast Pay and new left click convenience. If you do not have your land set to autoreturn, check your vendors and items. Thanks to Mash Mandala for the warning about this.

I found several at Home Depoz and reported them. I had Mick Linden come over and verify what this person was doing. Missbehavin Neva warned me about it. My understanding is she confronted the person and they think its rather funny.

Yups, we were warned by her too, and the individuals banned. Definately check vendors regularly and use auto-return if you can.

I hope the customer got their money back. I hate to think the bugger got away with any profit from it.

I seriously doubt that LL took the money away from her. Their attitude has always been that it's our own fault for not using the provided features or not testing our code properly. They symapthize really they do; but your money is gone.

Yes, well in this case it isn't the content provider who has lost anything...save perhaps a customer (assuming the customer never finds out what happened and blames the content provider). Its the buyer that loses because they pay some amount of money to a scam artist and recieve nothing in exchange for it. I hardly see how even LL can blame these customers.
I agree, LL can't be expected to trace ever database entry or transaction to return all rightful money to the owners...but they also can't say it was their own fault. And they certainly DO have an obligation to investigate these scam artists and to ban them for what they are doing. In the Real World (tm), this would be called "Unlawful Taking" and "Theft by Deception" and would certainly be illegal and prosecuted.

While with the basic buying, there is enough information for you to decide if it's the right product or not, I do think that the pay dialog could stand to be more informative, describing the name of the object/owner you are paying.

Was anything constructive ever done about this?

They symapthize really they do; but your money is gone. From the scripting side there is absolutely no way to tell if someone triggers a pay dialog. As pay dialogs give no information to the buyer the only way to tell is for the buyer to hover and see who owns the item, a step very few people will be taking. There was a similar thing with debit permissions where it didn't actually tell you what was asking for debit. Thankfully that got changed awhile ago.

I know that this does not solve the problem, but it would be handy if venders put their name on the sign so when it comes up 'pay money to xxxx' and it does not match, customers will smell a rat.

You can't do that. It doesn't tell you who you're paying and the only thing you can change is the prices.
