Do you think LL will save more by not having support than they lose with other things

Like, you know, L$ bought, people losing trust and ending their accounts...

This is the topic for just that part and maybe a bit of trolling over how I don't think anybody at LL passed maths.

You know, when I first mentioned it to my friend who plays SL too, that was the first thing she said, "will it really save that much money?" So then you can maybe get into the censorship possibility.

But then she did mention how it is a common trend in online games. Just let the users make their own forums.

I did just rant about the security thing in the "Omg I forgot my security question answer..." thread. I didn't forget my answer, secondlife.com forgot my question!

But not to change topic direction to much, but I do feel a little bad for the Lindens. What little I know, they seem to be a smallish company with a big idea that has sometimes stretched them thin. I left Matrix Online before it got really bad. I visited the forums there months later and found out that CSRs (customer service representatives) were practically hunting down people in the street and kick/banning them. Agents? No problem for a level 50. CSR? OMG, run!

So with the Lindens, they do try to do the in-game events, and try to connect with us (although usually on their terms - town hall meeting instead of forums). And they screwed up on the whole credit-card verify thing, but I think they eventually fixed it in a way that was a good compromise and made most content. And the primary people to blame are the hackers for the security thing.

Getting back to your question, I don't really see how the forums could be a significant chunk of cash compared to running hundreds of sims capable of holding 60 avatars each and tens of thousands of prims, endless textures, scripts, etc. And I do think it sucks; I only recently in my 3 months here realized what a good tool these general forum groups are.

I also hope that the Lindens kind of get out of this rut. Seems like their strikes are outnumbering their home runs; but I still think SL is wonderful and unique. Not time to leave yet.

Yes. When all's said and done there's nothing remotely close to SL.
