Can you make a group where only some can use group IM?

I'm trying to figure out if our new group powers allow the creation of group in which only certain roles can use the group IM chat.

This would be a great idea, case and point SL Motorcycle Racing Association, anyone can join and you have to join to use the bikes, im just a member but been using the bikes and track for a while, when new people join they group IM "how do i get on the bike?" and it interupts 300 people (if we were all online which would never happen roflmao)

If the group could have some people assigned to respond to group IM's for example.. so people who were new to a group could send a message to people who would know the answer rather than 60 more people who joined in the past five seconds

The idea that made me ask this is: Have a group called "Notices from Lindens", open join to resident, with a role for the Linden staff and and a role for residents. Only the Linden roles would be able to post group notices. If the chat could be made for the Linden role only, or turned off altogether, the staff could post notices they felt pertinent or useful; people who wanted to keep up with such things all the time would stay in the group all the time; people who didn't want to see the notices as they appear but who wanted to look at them from time to time would join and look at the record of past notices when they felt like it.

This idea doesn't work if anyone can use the group chat.

The "Receive Group Notices" checkbox being unchecked hasn't stopped me from getting group notices so it doesn't yet solve the problem of not seeing notices when you don't want to.

*laughs* expect to hear way too much from me, I avoided this forum so far because I am a total forum addict, I love to make them, moderate them, talk on them... ohhh dear...
