Spam in the Events Listings

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one tired of this crap. Today I hopped on SL, wandered around a bit, and decided to look in the events listings to find more and more spam in the Events Listings. Scroll down a few lines and find the following: Yard Sales, Store Ads, Land Sales, Money Chairs (and their various other incarnations), Casino Ads... WTF people. We have CLASSIFIEDS for that crap! None of that stuff belongs in the Events Listings, NONE of them even have hosts!

Are people so damn cheap that they can't spend L$50 to have their 24/7 yard sale or money chairs listed in the classifieds? I mean come on! If people are looking for those things they do a search for them! As for stores I don't need to see your all day sale listed EVERY f'n hour in the events listings! The classifieds are there for this kind of advertising NOT the events!

I may just be more irritable because I'm sick right now, but you know what? I'm sick and tired of being UNABLE to find something interesting to do because I have to sort through this trash to find the actual events! Either LL needs to hire a few new Lindens to sort through and filter out this garbage or they need to install spam filters in the events listings so we don't have to look at this trash!

There has always been crap in the listings and Linden Labs doesn't give a crap about it either. Move along.

You still look in EVENTS?
You still look at Classifieds?
You still expect LL to do more than find ways to bring in customers while the world crumbles?
Are you new here? :P

Heya, I got really annoyed with this to, so I started my own events list that I'm policing with stricter regulations than LL:

http://www.SLBoutique.com/events/

The 3 next events are listed on the home page, and I will visit them to make sure the people posting them aren't just spamming. I went to two last night which were a blast - Roller Derby in Zouk City, and Payment Podium at the Shelter. Both were a hoot! I'm pondering getting together my own roller derby team now!

Anyone can add to the list, but if you spam with nonsense, its simple: you'll be banned from posting again. I've created a device which allows you to add the events from in world. You can get one of these from the SLBoutique web site, or from anyone who has one in world (they're copyable). Feel free to IM me for one if you want one without creating an acocunt.

If you have an SLBoutique account, you can log in and use additional features. These include making your events weekly or monthly recurring events, with email notification coming on three levels. The three levels will be "Notify me of this event", "Notify me of all events hosted by this host", and "Notify me of all events in the sim".

I'm hoping these new tools and the list make it easier for people who want to find events. I've got nothing against tringo, but in my opinion, if you're a tringo parlor, running tringo isn't an event. If you're a club, having a party isn't an event. Just about every "Yard Sale" I've ever shown up at doesn't have a host.

However, if you're a club having a game show, that would constitute an event. In my opinion, an event should break the status quo of a land plot; those are the only ones which will be allowed. We're not out to offend anyone, just to create a useful resource for people looking for something a bit more unique. So far, so good, but I would like to see it grow.

Regards,

-Flip

Oooh!! This sounds really neat Flip!! I'll be sure to start using this service. I *always* look at events listings when I'm in world, but I'll be sure to start checking this one first! Thanks!! :D

LL does provide a "commercial" category for events now. This may be the reason you see so many of these things now. And personally I like it and will continue to use it. I rarely look at classifieds.
