oh come on, this is LL we're talking about. Since when did they do something right? I know I'm joining the long line off whiners and ranters here, but I have actually never said anything about this thing, just clenched my teeth and been taking it. And it's not like my whining here makes a difference, LL couldn't care less of what we say here anyway, but this is starting to get out of hand. So come on ppl, we all knew it was gonna happen. I'm just surprised it took so long before they actually discovered another one of their mistakes that needs to bring the grid down as usual and clean up.

LL in a nutshell for ya.

To quote Robin Linden:

""We will be making changes to the release process so the frequency of downtime should be reduced. We're also looking at ways we can deploy new features or fixes without taking down the entire grid. In the meantime, we sympathize with the difficulties the downtime caused and we apologize for any hardship you encountered.""

grid shut down
08-09-2006 15:23
Will you all quit you're dang whining!? Put yourself in their shoes. Would you fair any better? would you come up with problem free solutions? NO NO NO!. This is a game/business just like in the real world where problems and issues will arise to be solved.

Just learn to roll with the punches and appreciate that those people behind the curtains are doing what they can to resolve issues and to bring us a more enjoyable past time
called SL!

Happy whining.

What I'd like to know is what the heck is "presence information" and how does it affect us?

I sure hope we don't have a roll-back in the asset server data base...I just did a ton of work.

I'm glad they told us they were working on something but giving us "presence information" without telling us what it is doesn't help.

"Presence information" means showing when someone is online or not, example: friends list. There were issues that prevented this information from being accurate.

I don't know if this is the same, but the place where I work sees many issues on their network more frequently than this. Since we aren't there to see what the problem is and how they handle it, it's hard to judge their performance on their Grid issues. I'm just happy there hasn't been a grid wide griefer attack caused by a resident lately.

Grid down AGAIN!!!
08-09-2006 15:36
Well, this seems to become a weekly if not almost daily thing from SL AGAIN. Stop with the "updates" and fix what is broke before moving on. I am all for progress and improvement but for heavens sake!! make sure all other bugs are COMPLETLY resolved BEFORE making any. The last two updates have been horrible!! Freezing up and lag is HORRIBLE. Fix what is broken before moving on PLEASEEEEE. When is this going to stop or get better, and not by shutting the grid down SEVERAL times in a week just to "repair" something?

Woozie, you should read the release notes, and you'd see that they are NOT doing what they can to resolve issues and bring us what we want. They instead "fix" stuff and implement unwanted features.

I quote a few lines from the release notes :
From: someone

* CTRL-ENTER once again activates Chat Shout
* Scroll wheel once again causes Chat History window to scroll
* World Map once again correctly accepts coordinates for pin-point teleporting
* First name in a search query is once again automatically highlighted when search is performed

Now, all these once again is because of massive resident uproar over these unrequested changes.
Why the hell was it changed in the first place ? Who they dang comes up with such totally insane ideas as to remove or change features we've had for years ? Who approves these changes to be released ? How does that pass QA ? Does QA exist at all ?

As someone else already said, Linden doesn't give a shit about what we want and what we dont want. They implement whatever they think is cool. That is, according to Philip, apparently the way they work at Linden Labs.

And, we're the lab rats.

fixing stuff

I must agree that they do add unwanted useless things however nothing is full proof in sl anymore then it is in the real world. And since we know sl won't listen to us what are we then to do? My ctrl for shout doesn't even work anymore but I find complaining about it is usless. Unless we all decided to go on strike lol!.

Actually yes, I probably would since I am a firm believer in complete and thorough testing prior to release, and geting it right the first time through this process. Oh and BTW, FYI, in my jobs my record shows I HAVE done better...by far.

Uh. The Map thing, the search thing, and AFAIK the scroll wheel were all issues being resolved, wren't they?

Not really, they were being restored to their initial state after some renegade Linden f*cked them up for no reason whatsoever.

I think they should seriously start using that term "reclose". Especially once down time actually exceeds uptime.

Just need 5 more hours to make it 50/50 for the day!

Hell, why not just make SL open 9-5 so that they can have the other 16 hours to fix everything.

And after talking to a Linden, it was also responsible for the lost stipends from the basic folks who are required to log in weekly to obtain their stipend. If you look at one of your group lists, I don't think anyone appears as "present" since 8/1/06, even though I know for a fact that they were online.
