Okay....so SL is sposed to have just just opened for internal testing right? Right now there are 13 ppl inworld..Im assuming these are all Lindens scurrying around and testing the world for us. But then I noticed sumthin odd....this...
Transactions Today (US$): 62,347.26
And its keeps growing fast like there's all kinds of impressive transactions taking place. Can this be? Are those 13 Lindens in there selling and buying stuff back and forth? Okay, sure there might be SLBoutique transactions and SLExchange transactiosn going on, but my gut feeling is that the "Transactions Today" number is probly just a bogus counter. Can anyone confirm or deny the validity of this number? Is it really based on transactions that are happening or is it like the World Population clock, which is just a representation of a statistical model projecting what the Transcations probably are on average for this split second in time? Yeah...I am kinda bored right now as a matter of fact. ;-P
Since I started writing this post about 5 minutes ago the transacation amount is now this:
Transactions Today (US$): 62,898.53
Just wondering.

Yep. I was watching that number climb during the 1.7.0 update... (I was showing a co-worker the site, not pining for SL - so you all can stop looking at me like that.) I figure it's automatic, and perhaps adjusted against the previous day's actual total.

It's an estimate based on the previous day's count. Lawrence Linden specified this in another post, and says he plans to fix it.

From: Michi Lumin It's an estimate based on the previous day's count. Lawrence Linden specified this in another post, and says he plans to fix it. Kelly corrected me, it's not even based upon yesterday's count... it's based upon a count from quite a while back. Cheers, Lawrence

Can you lead us through the decision process there that made that happen, Lawrence?
For those of us who keep track, that stat was a huge blow to the collective credibility of Lindenlabs.
We have been complaining about it aggressively but nothing was ever said or communicated to us about it.
We felt, basically, that LindenLabs was trying to 'pull' a fast one over the community. Not only was it so poorly done it was about a critical piece of data.
Now the way you're hinting is that it's just a bug. I suppose that is a possibility, but more likely, it seems to me that someone just didn't have time to do it right and felt that the appearance was more important than the accuracy.
That makes sense in some instances, but I think around critical economic statistics - not so much.

/invalid_link.html"Transactions Today" should probably be changed to say something like "Transactions - Time Delayed"
