Passing traffic from malls?

I've just been visiting malls with an eye to renting a small place for a bit of extra exposure. I think it is probably a good idea to have more than one outlet. While at the malls I checked the traffic. Some smaller malls were struggling above one or two hundred! The really large ones I visited got around 2000 to 3000. Which seems a lot, but when you consider how large these places are and how many shops they contain the chances of much passing trade seems unlikely. Indeed, I never saw anyone at any mall I visited, apart from some guy with a large photograph of his penis attached to his avatar - he didn't strike me as an art lover

Anyway, my conclusion was that malls might be ok if you want a place to sell from without owning the land, but if you're looking for extra, passing traffic, it's not very useful. Does anyone have an opinion? Or perhaps a mall recommendation? I haven't written the idea off entirely as I would only need to sell one item a week to cover the cost.
