Has being in SL felt like being in a certain film, book or TV show?

The closing of the forums and other recent changes suggests that SL is at one of those crossroads--a place in its development where one phase of the platform's life is ending and another beginning. Which is not a bad point for us as residents to examine our experiences in-world so far.
Recently I read on Prok's blog about how a good bit of his experience in SL felt like what it might be like to be in the film "Fantasia." This made me think that an interesting way of characterizing what we have seen and done in-world (and in adjunct situations such as the forums) would be to consider what film, book or TV show might carry comparable elements to your SL exoperience.
Has it had the drama of "Anna Karenina" or have you felt more often like you were in "Gilligan's Island?"
In my case, well, I've felt for a while like I've been a bit player in a certain novel by Herman Melville, and not just because Aldo looks a little like Qeequeg. Actually, I feel a lot more like Ishmael than Queequeg or any of the other skilled whale-hunters--but in a nutshell, I've often found that like the crew of the Pequod, we're all literally in the same boat, but often are surpisingly cruel and callous to one another. And does this line of thinking lead us to compare a particular senior Linden to Captain Ahab? I'll leave that issue to your imagination, dear friends.
So what's your SL existence been comparable to in a literary sense? "Madame Bovary" or "Little Annie Fanny?" "The Wizard of Oz" or the "Wizard of Id?"

My personal experience? Maybe Amelie? The whole experience? Somewhere between 1984 and Charlie and the chocolate factory.

Sounds reasonable--going with the "Charlie and the Choclate factory" idea, any specific comparisons you might make on specific characters from the book and various in-world character? "1984" requires little elaboration I think, and probably is one that a number of folks could identify with. I suspect folks with this type of experience and perspective might also be inclined to mention "Metropolis."

The Bible. Think about it. Violence, sex, war, drama, prophecy, doom and apocalypse, the movement of peoples, the building of civilization, the coming of various saviors and devils, all in the Promised Land.

From: Mina Firefly SL is like the jerry springer show. Exactly what I was thinking. We're all the trailer trash that are sleeping with our "cuzzins".

Daytime Television... Drama everywhere you turn... People who die or are leaving suddenly turn up months later, the media sucks and gives one sided news that protects the government (Lindenlabs) and enough commercials to choke an elephant trying to get us to be good obedient consumers, who go into hock getting loans (Money purchases) to continue our shopaholic existance to again hear that our government is fine and economy is great... the only thing missing is a preperation H commercial to take care of the pain we are getting by getting rear ended by the Government ( linden Labs).
If SL is not Like Daytime TV.. then Daytime TV is like SL
