Hey y'all,

Most folks who know me, know I've "gone into retirement" from group stuff.

But, this new classifieds system is buggin me a bit. Now, I'm not smack talking at anyone who thinks it's a good thing. THis is my opinion...that and $1.05 will get you a cup of coffee at Mickey D's.

So, I've cooked up a group. Basically, I'm inviting anyone who :

A) a small business owner who can't afford top shelf billing

B) A large well established business owner who does'nt feel this is fair to the underdog.

C) Anyone who feels that this is, just wacked.

The mission....business owners advertise at the lowest rates, putting themselves at the bottom of the list. I figure...people will start lookin to the bottom of the list for the adverts.

Its a thought..Im sitting at 250 adverts right now for my stuff. But that will change in about 10 days.

Peace, brownies folks...and a safe and happy holiday season to all.

Jase

Well.. I just had an idea.. why not hold an event where the business owner could sponsor? I mean, it doesn't have to be a lot, but enough to cover costs for holding the event. Like, I dunno... a build contest? I think that'd kick butt seeing as there AREN'T enough events that promote creativity in the SL world.

You know, according to the Lindens, you just don't care enough about your product to pay more to advertise for it. ;) I'm not joking though. Check their explanation of why they started using this kind of classified system. 'Cause you don't care enough about your product.

I don't sell any product, I just advertise my club. Right now I'm experimenting with keywords to come up in searches.

Many beginning vendors do not have the money to pay for top billing in the advertising rings. Does that mean they have less pride in their items? I do not think so. In fact, they are the ones who often come up with innovative new ideas. I think Jase has a great idea, and I plan on frequenting the bottom of the list of advertisers.

All the 250's will soon dissapear as they were carried over from 1.7 so they will expire in upto 10 days, then it will be alot easier to tell who is advertising at what rate.

I like the new system but it is near useless now without the prices. The prices at least gave you an idea of how much people were selling their stuff for.

I find it very hard to visually sort through the list, cause the paid column is meaningless to me.

I've always made a point, whenever I search in game, to start at the bottom of the list and work upwards. Now that we can p2p, it's much quicker, and if a place is at the bottom simply because it's crap, then you can easily see that and move on to the next.

Much of what is at the top of the lists is only there because they have more money to throw away to bribe people to visit, and rarely is it because what they offer is so much better. Look at Anshe's pathetic little campaign at the moment against the removal of telehubs, paying L$6000 last time I looked, to 'make a point' which is now irrelevant because the protest failed dismally.

I also run "Magical Mystery Tours", where I take groups round some of the 'less visited' places that are in game, to show people there's far more than sex and money to be done in game. I've only run 4 so far but everyone has said it's great to see some of these unique places we visit.

I placed my ad for L$1,000 before I even looked through the list. I can't imagine paying more than that considering all the other advertising I pay for already. Knowing how folks are in SL, I knew it wouldn't be long before that was topped again and again lol. I find it amusing those who just add L$1 to get higher on the list. I don't think that "paying more means you care more!". I'm not really sure why LL came up with this idea in the first place. I was hoping for something well organized and user friendly. I don't really care if I'm at the top of the list or the bottom, what I care about is how easy it is to find my advertisement.

I suppose this was just a way to get people to spend more L$ but I don't really dig it. You're going to end up with hordes of people hating the top advertisers and yelling "BOYCOTT THE TOP WE LIKE IT ON THE BOTTOM!" All jokes aside, I just don't see this being the best way to run the classifieds. I could be dead wrong, it happens often lol.

At least traffic is a real-world measurement. Even though it can be gamed at least it told you, as someone searching, something about its popularity. This price-based thing is completely useless to people using it to find things. How does it make what I'm looking for easier to find? Considering the majority of the SL population would be considered searchers rather than listers, I think this group is whose experience LL would want to make better.

LL needs to add more categories to make up for the loss of the price column

Removing the price column and replacing it with this paid column was a huge mistake.

I think the price column was rarely used, and all this bidding all over the place will probably settle down in a week or so when the novelty wears off, remember you can search by name too by clicking on the name button

Price was used a lot. I certainly used it. Certainly a lot more than I use this paid column.

And so what if the bidding settles down. That's not going to make things better.

The problem isn't having to bid on the classifieds, the problem is no one can find anything with it.

And we already have find, btw, so how is classifieds any better?

No, simply, we need more categories.

I make the software search the list and present me with a short list of places that might have what I'm looking for. I wish we could search profile descriptions and notes as well I do.

I think advertising prices will go down, with a few select people stapled to the top obsessively at like L$20,000 a week.

Once people figure out that 'being on top of the list' means little to nothing, it'll start to drop. I tried it for a week (without even much of a 'huge' ad price) -- if this week's sales are OMG UNBELIEVABLE, i'll recant. but so far i'm not seeing that.
