How do i create a custom texture or add words to it?

Now i see many objects that have textures o n them with words. I am wondering can you add words to it by typing somewhere or do you create a new text that has words on it and if so what type of program do you use. what do you save it as and how do u upload it ? Haha sry for all the questions but its confusen me majorly

any paint program will do text ... that being said i like vector based one better becuase it allows you to zoom and rotate and other fun crap with little effort

any image sent to SL needs to be in bmp, jpg or TGA format, tga being the best choice,it handles trasnparency (unlike bmp) and doesnt loose quality (unlike jpg)

please keep the images 512x512 or less in resolution, we dont have infinate video memory ..

to upload them goto your file menu (upper left corner of the SL window) and choose "upload texture"

http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/DrawPlus/default.asp free vector based drawing program for windows

Use photoshop with a 256x256 template, background color of your choice. Save it as a JPG or TGA(Targa). Next upload it into SL using the File menu.

If you don't have photoshop, use some other paint program equivalent.
