I just registered as a resident two days ago. I'm a man who'd rather stop and ask directions than wander around lost, which leads me to my question: is there a newbie tutorial on the BBS anywhere on how to navigate and use the controls in-world? I don't see any sub-forum that looks appropriate to search in.
In the middle of editing my avatar, I got pushed off a cliff on the newbie platform, and spent twenty minutes with no understanding of the movement controls, trying to get myself out of the bottom of the sea. Not a good first experience, so I'd just like to know more about moving around so my next time will be much more enjoyable. Any help with a link will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Quickest and easiest way is to press F1 while in-world. There's basic help on most topics there. Good luck and welcome!!

Besides pressing F1 to bring up the help screen, most of the controls you ae talking about should have been covered at the Orientation Island you started at.
A quick summary to at least get you back on dry land: the W key walks forward, A rotates left, D rotates right, and S walks you backwards. Click the Fly button or hold down the "Page Up" key to start flying and fly up with "Page Up" or down via "Page Down". Once in the air use the W, A, S and D keys to maneuver back to land and hopefully the Orientation area. If you are still having problems use the "Live Help...: choice under the help menu and ask to be returned to the Orientation Area.

Thank you both very, very much! That was kind of the crux of my problem, was I missed any orientation by being underwater. When I fumbled into flying, I made for the closest land I could see, which wasn't the Orientation Island. These basics will help immeasurably, thank you again!
