What does 'Request Admin Status' under the new 'Server' menu do? When I try it, I get "request for special powers failed, this request has been logged". I know it's nothing to do with estate owner/manager access, because I tried it on my own sim and it failed. Anyone know what this does? Someone told me that it's like god mode, but built into the client. If that is the case, why does it fail? I would normally post this in SL Answers, but I figure the Lindens are overworked atm with everyone asking questions after the big update. So, I'm asking it here. Anyone know what this does? Please don't bother to respond if your answer is 'no', unless you know a better place for me to ask, and that better place isn't SL Answers or Live Help

That's all I know right now Edit: Also, trying to rename a script while admin mode is on will result in it shouting that you can't edit the object.

It's been there lonnnnnggg before, just not so clearly defined. It's supposed to give you Linden Level Powers, but the catch is, you gotta be a Linden. The only way to become a Linden is to beat the semi-powerful Philip Linden mid-boss and then move on to the Uber-boss, Torley Linden At least that's how it was explained to me. It's so Lindens can easily go in and out of their admin powers and be able to test the code as though they were regular players.

In order to beat the Uber-boss you first have to find the mystic watermellon. Not an easy task.

Yes, it's a bit confusing now Enable Admin Powers on the Client menu lets you select the options on the Server menu, but they won't actually work, because you aren't authorised to use them. Request Admin Powers on the Server menu actually asks the server to authorise you to use them, but unless you're a Linden, it refuses, and you get the message above. Why is it there - well, you know that time when you wanted to delete something on your land, and you accidentally selected too much and deleted your house? Well, imagine that, except that you have the power to ignore the fact that prims are locked, and you can delete objects owned by anyone. See why you wouldn't want those powers all the time?

I was an ircop and linux sysadmin for years. I know well the principle of "if you can do it as a user, do it as a user". Helps prevent accidents, and that is worth it, even if accidents are very rare anyway.
I just wonder why that request admin powers is enabled for non-lindens. Slightly confusing and ominous. It should probably be renamed to 'linden powers' and disabled for non-lindens, imho.

Request admin powers doesn't activate properly unless your last name is linden. Otherwise it pops up with that dialog to scare you. They don't do anything about you requesting it. I've probably done it about a gazillion times and no lindens IMed me like "WTF STOP" yes so yea...

I don't know about it being a requirement to be a Linden. I understand that LL has several "hidden" or off-grid regions that run special projects for companies and organizations that aren't apart of the SL Adult or Teen grids. Possibly, that menu is there for the owners of those regions to obtain "God" powers in just those regions? Dunno for sure, just my guess.

Looking at the God Tools window it looks basically the same as Estate Tools but for everywhere, albeit with a few extra things (I'd love to know what "Script Digest" does), so I think that "God powers in just those regions" is a bit redundant - again not sure though.. I honestly suspect the only reason they've done it this way is so there's nothing left for anyone to hack.
