1) start charging twice as much for land.
2) start charging L$20 per prim
3) start charging access to clubs, malls, events
4) do away with stippends entirly
5) charge 19.95 per month for basic accounts
6) sell ad space within the game and on the web site. 250L$ in world and 2.50us$ per ad on the web site.
7) use screen capture to grab pics of the outfits you like while in "appearance" rip that image past it onto the sl template or chip midnights template and sell them as your own.
8) screen capture any image you like and sell it as your own.
9) tell everyone your giving away 1 million lindens on such and such date and the tickets are L10 each then dont show up for the raffle (hehe i love that one)
10) sex sells need I say more, start offering some kinky shit like have someone in a Phi AV and charge 500L$ per ;)
11) contact tabaco companies and see who will be the first to offer to buy an island for you, just hand out web addresses for ciggy coupons. Its all good ;)
12) stand in the welcome area and lie to noobs and tell them there is a L10 free to go any further. Or show them where the nearest casino is (owned by you of course)
13) start a business that has sales ppl go around handing out notecards about your business to everyone in sight. Best to use noobs or alts that say "sorry im new i didn't know" that way no one is the bad guy.
14) start ugly rumors about anyone who is against your personal agenda. Via IW, the forums and any other means, private forums, private webs, anything related to sl at all.
15) tell everyone that the lindens love your work the best and photoshop a linden buying something of you. Whats a little false advertizing between friends right.

Furthermore, as Second Life goes to the Metaverse, and this becomes an open platform, Linden Lab risks lawsuit in court and [attachment culling] will, I repeat WILL be reverse in court.

I think I'd excel at this. but could you tell me more about how to make money from it? I don't quite understand the proposed business model behind this venture.

Step 1: Start nasty rumors and spread them around.
Step 2: ........
Step 3: Make lots of money.

More on topic to Martin's original post... It does seem like it's more and more about the money lately. Sometimes I wonder what happened to the SL I signed up for, where they seemed to be pushing the creativity aspect. I guess now that the creative people have built the world, they should step aside for commerce to come in and rule the day. Now you're only encouraged to be creative enough to make some cash.

Hypothetically speaking - say you're a very talented architect. And you build *awesome* creations. But you aren't interested in money - your joy comes in creating something cool, and having others appreciate your work.

I don't understand how people who are here just for financial gain could have any effect on that talented builder's joy of creation. Isn't it possible for people who here for purely creative reasons, and those who are here for financial gain to coexist peacefully?

I rarely buy anything in Second Life - maybe once in a great while when something really cool catches my eye. There's just so much more to this world than what you have, or what you can buy IMHO. But if that's important to someone else, that's cool by me too.

It's very possible for captitalists and non-capitalists to co-exist peacefully. In fact, it's a rather symbiotic relationship. Consumers depend on Merchants, and vice versa. I was referring to SL in general with my comments. The changes to the land auctions, the siphoning off of the stipends/bonuses, the other various money sinks, LindeX... The focus no longer seems to be on creating for creation's sake, but on the economy and attracting businesses to SL.

It's not users being here for financial gain that will effect that hypothetical architect, it's changes to LL policy that will do it.

Unfortunately it really all does come down to money.

But in the wise words of Cristiano Midnight :) sorry if I paraphrase here Cristiano; "As long as you have your land; and your creative on it, nothing for you has really changed"

Truer words were never spoken.

I do feel like you have describe Jonquille, progress is not easy. I'm a huge rpg fan. Coming to terms that sl is not an rpg arena took some major adjusting to get used to this new sl.

Do what you do till its not fun anymore, then find something that is fun again :)

If it helps any I have been spending the majority of my days looking for interesting builds that sold nothing.
