It stops at "verifying protocol version" and then when it tells me that it can't connect and I click the help button it doesn't do anything.

Do you have any firewalls or routers on? SL can play badly with those, I know it happened to me and I was wonderin' what was up. Turn all those kinds of programs and hardware off, and see what happens. It shouldn't get stuck at there if the pathways are open, so to speak. _____________________

Well, turned off the router and switched to my direct cable line and uninstalled then reinstalled the client, but no luck. I did e-mail support but I am not expecting a response any time soon since it's a holiday. I guess I'll just have to wait and try again tomorrow. Thanks again for everyone's help.

My firewall hates new updates, and I have no idea why, since I accept them. Seems it always takes a few days for the firewall to start to like SL. How and why could that be?

How and why could that be? coco Hi Cocoanut, Some firewalls (usually those as part of an 'internet security' package) use adaptive filtering even though you have told it that a particular program is OK. In other words, it's still looking for bad stuff even though you said that the program was alright. It can take a little while for the firewall to get used to the traffic, and I'm willing to bet it's stuff like this that causes a lot of 'lag' issues for SL users. |
