Ok so I have some firstland and a skybox up out of the lag.

How do I get music and TV into my house? It must be relatively easy -- a lot of places i've been through have streaming music. Is it possible to have a certain tv station streaming in?

Thanks,
Yirrk

Use the land properties editor: about land > media. You'll see an entry for your audio stream URL and another for your video stream. Alternatively use a media player such as SLamp.

music you can do one of two ways:
you can type the url of the station directlly into your land or you can buy a radio in game that has several stations on it so you can change from station to station

video or tv:
the only way you could stream a tv station in is to have the url of that station
i know people that record shows and then watch them in sl with friends but you have to put them on a server or upload them so that people can watch them

in sl there are many stores you can buy movies or rent movies from to watch in sl you can also rent dvd players that play music videos
and some that claim to have tv channels but when i checked them out they were not quite the channels i was expecting...the "cartoon channel" was old black and white cartoons stuff like that but still it was tv in a way

there are all sorts of possibilities ..but also know some peoples tv's or video gear only work with their movies/tv's and other video gear so be careful where you go and what you get

Ultimately, the Radio stream URL you need has to be a Shoutcast-compatible stream. Parcel Video runs through Quicktime, so either live Quicktime streaming video or static QT videos uploaded to the web are suitable.

There are radio products which help you set the Radio for your land, some of them come with a built-in list of stream URLs. Ditto there are TVs which "contain" video - a lot of them present material which is provided and hosted by Archive.Org though (which is freely available without paying, if you don't need/want a scripted TV object to handle the techy bits for you).

I think that if you are renting space from another user, as opposed to paying LL directly, then you need to contact them to see if you can have the video and audio streams placed under your control.
