I am a total new resident =) just joined up a few days ago, I read in a thread that the asset server also got hit hard, does this mean that my inventory and the things I had just purchased (as in two very expensive avi's) are going to be gone?

It wont make me quit SL but I would be devistated if I lose my toys...

Hey there,

Welcome to SL, har dee har har :D

Its hard to tell with the asset server what's going to happen to your inventory until we get in and find out. I believe this had more to do with the space server, a server I never knew existed before tonight, but its nice to bitch about a different server once in a while.

Overall I have only heard of a handful of truly mind-boggling inventory losses throughout all of SL's time, so statistics are on your side that your inventory will be fine.

I wouldn't worry about it. The asset server has backups and backups of backups. Like anything else, it's not foolproof by any means, but it's about as safe as safe can be. Events like what happened today don't effect it anyway. As Cory said, it was the space server that got borked by the attack, as well as at least a few dozen individual sims, maybe all. I never heard of the space server before tonight either, but I speculate by its name and the fact that it was described as being depended upon by all sims that it is probably responsible for controlling where sims appear in the world.
