im upset so im sorry if i spell words wrong.

i came to sl to be with my friend who helped me get my avatar looking nice, but then she stopped playing for some reason. i wanted to stay and decided to make money to buy land. i earned $L15,000 and went looking for land. i found beautiful water land in orwood but needed $L3,000 more so i bought it.

i moved to my land, put out a temporary hut and my furniture. the next time i went back to try to build a home, i had company, a neighbor. he said my land was for sale and helped me fix it. he also said my land had a red fence around it and helped my fix that too. he said he and others thought i was a griefer.

my other neighbor was very hostile. they asked me what i was going to build and i said a mermaids pad. anyway to make long story short, i want whimsy and they want rustic. i dropped my floor below to the sea to build down there. today i met another neighbor who encouraged me to build way in the sky cuz they could see what was down in the water. she also said that the other neighbor would not like me cuz i spoiled his view.

but this land was for sale so if they want it to all look the same, why did they not buy it? they all seem fairly nice but i feel so pressured and not enjoying my new land. i just feel so so sad, what do i do now?

Don't let them pressure you. You are entirely correct, if they cared enough they should have bought the land themselves.

Build your mermaid pad. Everyone won't be happy with it. So be it.

Alex, it is your land, make it however you want and enjoy it, ignore people who try to tell you what to do with your land.

A quote in my SL profile: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." ~Dr. Seuss

You can build *whatever* you want on your land. If they don't like it and threaten you to Abuse Report (AR) you, or say they will call a Linden, LET THEM! It's your land, you can't get in trouble for building something that other people don't like if it's on your land. If your neighbor is harassing you, Abuse Report him (Help-> Report Abuse... (Include the chat log)), then mute him! Build whatever you want to on *your* land, from a "bean fortress" to mermaid pads!

I would give your neighbors the chance to buy your lot so you can move somewhere where you won't offend them.

Personally, I'd love to have a mermaid as a neighbor, but I'm nowhere near water at the moment. There are some nice sims that have lots of water plots, though. Just keep your eyes open. There's no need to deal with unhappy neighbors if you can find a better place to go. :)

Have you considered building a niad's spring and grove? They were similar to mermaids, but where spirits of watery springs. It would be a nice synergy between your original idea and the woods and might make both parties happy. And you add the body of some dumb hick (coveralls, straw hat, etc.) at the bottom of her pool. ;)

A nyad (rather than niad) was a water spirit similar to mermaid. They watched over their fresh water springs. A spring would be a small stream of water flowing naturally from the earth. You just have it feed into whatever sized pool of water that you need. And a grove is a small stand of trees lacking dense undergrowth that would surrounf the pond.

Quick concept sketch in case we're not on the same page. Oh. [Disclaimer: Any frustrations that may result from using the LL land tools to achive this result is the sole property of the person wielding the said land tools.] ;) But seriously, you might not need to sink you land down that far. You might be able to use phantom prims with water textures to get that underwater look. Maybe. *shrug* Others might have some experience in these matters.

Of course you can build anything you want on your land but it is still wise to think about what your neighbors might think of it. Having not seen your land I don't really have an opinion on your situation but I know that when someone built spinning Batman signs next to my wooded area I was a little perturbed.

Good. I am glad that all those years of art classes (and dead hicks) did not go to waste.

Give a man a dead hick, and he can look at him until he rots away.. Teach a man how to draw a dead hick and he can look at one forever :D

First, they could have bought the land when I did. Second, they did not like the red fence around it, so I removed it. Then I was going to build mainly underwater so they would not be disturbed. They want me to build in the sky. I bought this property for the water, not the sky.

I IMed the lady that I bought the land from, just to vent. She said that when she bought it, she put in a lovely houseboat, and they complained about that too. One neighbor offered to buy it but was not willing to pay what she paid for it. They continued to subtly harass her so she moved.

Hahaha... that sounds like something I could absolutely, definitively, 1,001% agree to. :)

Alex... I've only read what you've said, and while I haven't seen your build for myself, it doesn't sound to me like you're going out of your way to offend or disturb your neighbors. It sounds like you've posted on the SL Forums to get an extra bolstering of voices to reaffirm what you already might believe in, like a Greek choir.

Only, I hope this doesn't end up a tragedy. :)

Some of my friends in SL who are neighbors have property next to each other are completely at odds, creatively. But it comes down to a personal love for diversity, and knowing that even if you don't appreciate what's next door as much as the person who lives there, you can still see their unique beauty.

Mermaids and myth have much a place in SL. Infact, one of the first mermaids I ever visited here, was Myradyl Muse. I was introduced to her over a year ago by Cristiano Midnight, and I enjoyed her sea gardens. If you'd like to see some of her creations, check out these destinations.

Best of hope with this, Alex. Like a mermaid, be a master of the flow and just continue to be nice and patient about things.

I am the one that sold the land to Alex, and as such, I would like to clarify a few things.

I bought the land (over 2000 sq. m, I believe) for a bit over $8,000L. It was one of the most beautiful plots I had ever seen, water with views of grassy hills. I bought it to put rental property on. I saw what was built in the area, so I tried to find something that would fit in. I found some rustic looking houseboats, added a dock, a sign and fishing poles. Cute, and very pretty.
Within the first few days, I had visitors. Since I can't name names, let me just call them Neighbor A and Neighbor B. Neighbor B wanted to know how much I paid for the plot. I honestly told him, and we both agreed that I got a good deal. Neighbor A was vey sweet. She showed me her house, told me about the area and explained what she and the others had tried to do with the area. She told me if I ever wanted something built, she would be glad to do it. She also told me about the ferry boat business she and the other were working on.
A few weeks later, all of the houseboats were full of renters. Neighbor A asked if I would be willing to sell the land as they could not fulfill the ferry boat plans without it. She said that she had no money in SL, but Neighbor B would buy it.
Neighbor B said he would pay whatever price I had to pay for a replacement lot. Both neighbors sent me landmarks to what they thought would be suitable plots on a regular basis. Neighbor B IMed me constantly to tell me about land for sale.
But the plots I looked at were too small or did not contain enough water to host boats. I finally found a plot that would work, but it was smaller and with a lot less prims. The physical size was big enough so I looked at the map to see if I could find land in the same sim to add to the prim allotment.
The only other land that was available in that sim was bigger than what I needed. I IMed Neighbor B and told him what my options were. He said that was fine. I bought both plots, moved the houseboats to the new location, and gave discounts to the renters. I set the land at the first houseboat location for sale at $14,000L (which was still less than $6L per sq. m.), and notified Neighbor B that the land was set for sale to him.
He responded by saying that he would not pay that amount, that we agreed that he would only pay the amount the new land costs, and that he knew what the price of that plot cost. He was very, very rude.
At that point, I told him the land was no longer for sale to him. I told Neighbor A that she could use the land however she choose to. I changed the name of the plot to "[Her name]'s ferry boat business." She insisted on paying me some $L each week for rent on the plot, though she certainly did not need to.
Yes, I felt harassed by Neighbor B. So much so that I will never shop at his furniture store again or deal with him in any way. However, Neighbor A was the very definition of a lady, and I am glad to have met her.
I only sold the property bc I have to tier down rapidly (money is tight here atm, and I can either afford my tier fee or Christmas, but not both). The people in this location had three chances to buy this property, when I bought it for $8k, when I had the price set at $14,000L, or when I set the price at $18,000L. As someone else has said on the forums, the only way to control your environment is to buy it all. They should have. Build whatever you want, Alex.

My apologies for the length of this post. :P

there are a few things you can do....
1. mute them so you don’t have to pay attention to them complaining and ban them from your land

2. make your land unsafe and shoot them when they come on it :D

Hey, if you're on unsafe land, you're fair game.

To anything except turrets, that is. :-)
