United Third Party Forums

I see alot of threads and posts that indicate there will be a way too many third party forums out there - too many for anyone to keep up with or to maintain any effective communications across the community as we have known it with the SL Forums.

Would like to suggest that the community of SL Forums 'leaders' collaborate and form a single, 'united' third party Forums website that will effectively replace and/or even supplant the LL sponsored Forums... or whatever is left of it in the short to mid-term.

It would be great to continue to have one centralized forums site. The special interest groups could then hang/link their forums off the main site.

Otherwise, the forums communications and sense of community as we have known it will be totally splintered and fragmented - and probably lost forever.

I think that's LL's whole point.

I think there are too many springing up all of a sudden. Remember that SL has this "shield of anonymity" too. You have no idea who's forum you are posting on and who is moderating these 3rd party forums. With the SL Forums, there's a sense of security knowing that the Linden's are playing "Big Borther" and not your fellow residents (with the exception of the infamous resmod program).

When you start getting all these other sites and posting on their forums, you have to agree to their TOS or lack thereof. Imagine all the flame wars and badoozles that will break out without moderation...and biased moderation at that.

I am not accusing any 3rd party forums of this, but I cannot say that it has not happened and will not say that it won't in the future.
