I'm really enjoying 1.8 so far. Textures seem to load faster (once I cleared my cache), and the P2P makes travelling a pleasure.

But the thing that really does it for me is the water ripple. It has transformed my homes, and has added a real element of beauty to Second Life. Congratulations to all concerned. :)

I can't wait to see the ripples. I have land with water in the front and back of my parcel. I just hope my video card will support it from what I have seen mentioned. I have an ATI radeon 9800 so if anyone has one, let me know hehe. I'm stuck at work :(

Sofar for me, two thumbs up... Not a single problem yet. I need a better graphics card so I can get my ripple-on, but that's my problem. :D

Thumbs up LL :D Performance is vastly improved - as smooth as 1.6.

Love the water ripples too, but it makes the land look poor in comparison! Once you have made a clean spot.....

I have two computers and two cards that support pixel shading. A sligthly older card "ATI 9200" and a new Nvidia something or another that is less ram but far better for SL.
The Nvidea supports AGP and obviosly the ATI doesn't because most of us ATI folks are left out when it comes to a certain games.

Anyway both will not let me select ripple effects. And the AGP support on the Nvida does nothing for frame rates anyway from what I can tell on the debug.
Both of these options work just fine on other games that are far more graphicly intense.

I expected this to happen anyway on the ATI as soon as I heard about the pixel shading option.
Basically because the AGP support has never been fully fixed in the first place so why should this work them? Nobody ever complains about it much because we are all just happy SL is up and running in the first place.
The Nvidia though I expected to at least run the pixel shading.

But apparently, in my experience, only a semi decent computer can deal with SL and us high end folks get left out. Better isn't always better I guess. Which is fine. A little strange but fine.
If I want pretty I can just play one of my other games. On the other hand if they offer options for cards that support pixel shading and AGP support. Then it should support it.

In any case, it's aggrivating, other than that it all looks good.
I'm just happy we didn't lower fps again like with the 1.7 :)

There are unconfirmed reports of rare sighting of T&A in SL going back to to at least v1.5.

Just plain asses predate beta.

A small minority of people have very low FPS. While it looks like most people will experience a smooth transition, something was introduced that is tanking the performance of some users.

I haven't checked my FPS yet, I guess because 1.8 works for me !!!! Ha! Now I can build again and my textures are loading just fine.

I don't have terrific FPS.

But it DID seem to me like the textures were loading better! Or a bit faster, or something. I can't tell if it is in my imagination or not.

But here's something really, really dumb. I have NVidea GEForce3 video card, and 256 memory. And yet . . . yet . . . I swear the water looks different. It is moving now. I swear it didn't move before.

Am I nuts or what? Could this possibly be? Did I just never notice it before?

Coco,

Yes, I noticed that - I think it was something that was added to 1.7. However, it doesn't compare with the effect of the water ripples in 1.8. IMO it is worthwhile for anybody to - as it were - splash out on a new video card, just to see the world looking like this:-

You'd think I would have noticed it in 1.7, then. Anyway, it's good to know I'm not nuts.

My problem is I need to splurge on a whole new computer, and that absolutely is not going to happen! There's no splurge to splurge with!
