Anyone know of any vendor who makes a modifiable skin (for chicks) so that I can wear tats and makeup that are not also clothing?

Viv,

Most of the skin makers that I know of in game, are more than happy to work with you on adding skins or different makeups.

I have Nevermore skin, if you have that and want to add tattoos or makeups, check Santana Lumiere's profile for the hours in which she does these things. :)

I don't know of any mod skins, however, as I said, merely contacting the maker of your skin usually can help you out a great deal.

Good luck!

You can't add tattoos with modifiable skin, you only have the option to take off the texture of the skin on one particular peice of your body where the tattoo goes, they use the same box so you can't have both..

But as Katja says, most skin makers will add on tattoos or makeup for you, and some skins even come premade with lots of makeup variations..

Curses! foiled again. I change tats, shape, and hairstyles as often as I do clothing. If only it were as easy to change your look in RL! LOL. Well thank you for replying and letting me know.

Check out Second Skin by Namssor. They replace the files in your character folder rather than using tattoos so they can be modified in appearance, and (I think) allow you to add your own tattoo layers. They're very nice, but a bit more complicated to set up since they need to be installed on your harddrive. Most other skinners (myself included) use the tattoo layer at the expense of modifiability. Each method has advantages and disadvantages. Nam's skins are definitely worth a look :)

One method some use is using underwear tops or bottoms to make tattoos.

If you get some tattoos that are modifiable, you can go into appearance mode, create a new piece of underwear, then drag the tattoo into the clothing texture box. Keep in mind you wont have underwear on then!

If you prefer to have underwear on as well, and you have a decent paint program like PS, PSP, or GIMP, you can make some underwear textures with tattoos on them as well, by laying them out on the clothing templates LL provides. Then upload the textures to SL, make new underwear in appearance mode, and drag in your custom texture.

Or you can do as Chip suggested and get a Second Skin by Namssor - I did - but bear in mind they are a little spendy. The one drawback is if you use avatars of BOTH sexes. I am happy with mine though.

Good luck, whatever you choose to do.

Everyone here is correct about skin textures in game needing to occupy the tattoo slots. There are workarounds (at the expense of a clothing item) for tattoos on the lower and upper body, but the head has no in game workaround. The only complete full body solution to a fully modifiable skin is to place the skin on the client side. This is what I do with my advanced skin models. What you get is the ability to use the default sliders (detail, makeup, skin sliders) over the skin as they would work normally with the default LL skin, and free use of all 3 tattoo slots for any custom work you wish to overlay on top of the skins. You are welcome to come look at the demo skins and read the notes Vivianne. The complexity of the install is much more involved than a normal skin and not for everyone, but if you absolutely require this level of customization I am the only one that offers this (as far as I know). It's a lot of overhead on my part to support this kind of thing for everyone, but until generalized texture layers become a reality, this is the next best thing.
