After reading some of the release notes for 1.7 and seeing the thing that pathfinder posted where you can arrange RL meet ups this question did come to mind.. Is SL going to be just a 3d interface that will allow people to see more than text when using personals?

==================================
* Child objects no longer scale when the parent scales
* Attachment repositioning preserved after boundary crossing or teleport
* Jointed objects once again appear after moving out and back into range
* P2P Joint display works properly after object deselected
* Build button available on your own land when "No Build" is set
* Saving a High Resolution snapshot to disk no longer crashes SL client
* Undo object edits again possible when chat bar is open
* Scaling root of attachment does not move child objects
* Duplicating trees from the Library no longer causes crashes
* Non-uniform scaling of an attachment works correctly now
* "Personals" category added to Classified categories

After reading some of the release notes for 1.7 and seeing screenshots posted all over, this question did come to mind.. Is SL going to be just a 3d interface that will allow people to take pretty pictures?

I think that conclusion is overly slippery-sloped. People already meet, people want better ways to meet, LL is adding a feature to help do so.

What's interesting to me is that LL is internalising another feature that could be done (and likely will be done) by 3rd party sights. Given the complexity of many dating sights - with profiles, questionaires, quizzes, etc - that ultimately I don't think this is worth LL's time, unless they plan to spin it off in the medium to long run.

As it is now, it sounds just like a newspaper's listings. What I think is short-sighted by LL is the fact that newspapers are getting killed by the Internet, and personals in newspapers are completely inferior to web-based dating sites, for features.

It crashed for some of the Preview releases—it's fine in the current 1.6.12.
