Dear Spammer,
There are many people in SL who I believe have talent, some that I know and some that I just admire for their work.
I will shop almost anywhere and look at almost any outfit, product, creation or design. However, if you spam me with an IM, with an uninvited TP, a random notecard or *rolls eyes* drop me a pic of your item you have lost me.
While I don't mind people IMing me to see if I'd be interested in recieving information on a vendor space or something like that.. please do not violate my time with your random spam.
If your product is worth looking at, I will look at it eventualy with out your attack on my senses.
Thank You in advance for No Further Aggressive Marketing on Me. -K

this may sound naive. but OMG people actually do this stuff?
i been designing for nearly 2 years in SL and have never done this.
the only thing i have done that comes remotely close to this is drop friends new out fits i have made.
I do list a lot of classifieds and that may be considered spam but I'm paying for them.

Placing a classified is the RIGHT way to do it. lol.. it's not spam.. it's advertising and I love looking through the ads.
But yes.. as sad as it is.. people do these things. Tonight I was dropped a notecard for a new mall.. no IM no asking if I wanted the information.. nothing.. just BAM there it was. My hubby was dropped a pick of a certain designer's new outfit.... he had NO idea who she was or why he should care to see her outfit. lol

My profile states in Caps DON'T SPAM ME!... and then some. This has cut down the spam from several a day to a couple a week. There are 2 sure-fire ways to get me to never, ever shop at your store or utilize your services... Spam me, and sell freebies. So to those who spam me... keep on doing it. I'll add your name and outlet to the growing blacklist I already have and share with friends who will also refuse to give you their money.

Just had to get that off my chest. Spamming in SL *is* against the TOS. If it happens again, AR them. Then, tell them that you've just ARed them for spamming. If everyone would do this, they might start getting the idea. Spamming is the sort of thing that could totally ruin SL, and which can get out of hand pretty quickly. I think that the LL people don't really understand why people mind getting shot by griefers so much, but hopefully they're cluefull enough to realize that spam in game is bad.

In the sixteen months that I have been visiting Second Life I have been spammed a total of two times. I don't believe this is as big a problem as it's made out to be.

From: Vares Solvang In the sixteen months that I have been visiting Second Life I have been spammed a total of two times. I don't believe this is as big a problem as it's made out to be. I think it depends on how much you sell/advertise, and how much your name is connected to a 'brand.' 99% of the spam I get is from people who know my store brand, and want to offer me great deals! to come pay them rent at their great new mall!... despite my profile clearly stating I am not looking to expand. I don't fault people for wanting to invite in retailers and help their own businesses, but dropping me cookie-cutter notecards when I've very clearly asked for them not to be dropped on me is NOT the way to do it.

I don't see why people bother to notecard spam in the first place (unconsentually).
There are plenty of opportunities and places in which people can push thier product(s). YES even in Public areas.
Alot of my buyers I noted found out about my store and products simply by seeing the product first hand at various Sims or WA locations.
I think it's silly to try to act all modest and what not when presenting an item you put work into in the first place, by making an item, sticking it in a vendor (for example) then not even showcasing that product anywhere in sight but only to those that happen upon it by luck.
Giving a direct visual preview of the product in action is usually much more effective than just a notecard and a picture anyways.
Profiles don't quite leave enough room for adequate information sometimes so 'Straight from the creators mouth' works great too in alot of cases.
People love demos of what is offered beforehand.
but I agree, spamming (dropping uninvited notecards) on people won't win you customers in the least.
If customers in SL wanted Text previews (by the gobs) then they certainly wouldn't be in SL considering Sl is an extremely visual world.

When alot of people open a mall they usually think of places they like to shop and usually invite those people first and I always feel complimented to get any invitations even if they just want my rent LOL. I do , however, ask in my profile that they simply send me a note or folder and leave it at that and I will contact them if its doable. Spam notecards I can handle and read at my convienence its the follow up IMs that say " let me tp you to come see it " " are you doing it yet?" " did you read the card" " when are you coming" " you can pay now"..then its more of a spamming effect to me. Lately since i put that I get requests like that without the hassle and I respond to ones i can do and delete the ones I cant and no harm done
