I didnt take any request and i didnt talk (because I am chicken), but I played people music that i love and it sort of rocked my world. I can completely understand why people do this!

good for you :) I never take requests because a) i usually don't have what's requested, b) i am usually too busy to notice them in a timely fashion, and c) i just don't really care what other people want.

djing is great fun, and i encourage everybody to learn how to ;)

Hey congrats on entering the world of DJing, it's fun, exciting, and there will be rabid animals that will bite your leg off (hee, not really!). Have fun with it, that's the most important thing :D And don't be afraid to talk, everyone gets over that in a very short manner!

It is wonderful and refreshing how helpfull all of the dj's that already know what they are doing are. My sweet friend Noir even made me a lucky kitty tip jar. :)

In college I DJ'd for the campus radio station for a semester. I know the too chicken to talk bit. I was the same way. Brought back memories. :D

I love DJ'ing, especially at parties. Nothing like doing requests and making an idiot of yourself for other people's entertainment. It was a rush the first time I did it, loved it ever since. Though I'm not the too chicken to talk, I just worry I talk too much sometimes lol. :D

I used to gig regularly in RL, these days far less so, but I've done it in SL several times and it's great fun. I also never take requests because my sets are mainly mixes of obscure European trance /electronica created in the studio so I wouldn't be likely to have what's asked for anyway. People seem to enjoy it though and that's the main point! Good luck and keep doing it your own way !

DJ-ing - How To...
08-16-2006 21:52
Hi,

I DJ'd on another chat altogether and loved it. It was a thrill to play and to have people go, "Oh my god, is that you???" (I hope that was a good omg, by the way.)

When we did it, one of the many friends of mine tapped into one of the many websites out there that sponsor streaming music. I had my own mic. I had a whole lot of favorite tunes ripped into my old computer, and I just had a blast.

Most sites like that cost something, but sometimes groups can get one like we did, and everyone get the same password and share the bandwidth.

Do a bit of research to see what you need. Last time I checked, it wasn't free anymore, but who knows what is out there now. Look for the best deal and make sure you're getting your money's worth. Either do it because you have a passion and don't mind springing for the 5 bucks a month or do it because you know you have the time to put into it on SL and can pay yourself back the 5 bucks a month.

Shoutcast was the program I used. It had a user details section that allowed for me to broadcast as if I were on my own (our own) radio station.

It's fun!

I love dj'ing hehe. Have gotten pretty popular doing it and a great way to meet new people. There are some awesome DJ's in sl :D

Thank you to everyone who replied. I love hearing about peoples experiences. Yesterday, I dj'd for 5 hours and it was just as good as the first time...better infact, because i took requests and i started to feel at ease. I still didnt talk, but i think that is coming next. I can see myself doing this much much more!
