I've noticed that someone has changed to a newer house in this area. I wonder if that's permitted there...I'd love to do the same. Anyone here who lives in Blumfield?

There are no rules in Blumfield. It's suburbia without the homeowner's association.

No matter what the spirit of a certain community is, in SL the sprawl will always prevail without intervention by Linden. It'd be nice if people could just get along and keep their builds in a certain sim in keeping with the desires of the majority of residents there, but it'll never happen - there are too many money-men (and women) and not enough community spirit.

P2P teleporting will cause the situation to deteriorate yet further.

It'd be nice to have zoning on land actually owned by residents, rather than the rather rubbish situation we have now where Anshe is in charge of it!

Heh heh, well, someone is going to manage it.

I suspect Anshe is probably among the least annoying that you're going to find.

Generally, Zoning by business owners is probably best because they have something to lose if they start pissing people off en masse. They also have a reason to keep working at it.

People without a financial stake will either vanish unexpectedly or piss people off randomly.

Let's try this. Hold off a bit before making any decisions. I'll let you live on a 512 section of my land for a week for free. It's a beautiful sim, low lag, very nice neighborhood. Then perhaps we can find another 512 for you to try for a week. Anyone know of a nice 512 huddled in the shadows of a laggy build and maybe an anti bush sign or two? Or maybe some rotating art would be a special treat. Afterwards we can sit down and talk about monthly fees and the price of land in my nice sim. Some land just went up for sale there for over $10 per sm. Who knows if it will sell at that price, maybe by then you can get a better deal, like maybe $8-9 per sm, if it's still available after our experiment.

Please understand that this is LL's first attempt to provide an opportunity for a self zoned sim. Proceed with your plans for remodelling but please consider your area in the process. I am thinking you're just wanting to downsize primwise because, as indicated in your other thread, your house is 64 prims which is very high for a 512 plot. So, consider this more of a cautionary tale about the land of possibilites that SL is.

They have a homeowners association in Blumfield. And I think they can do it!

Of course, there will likely be one or more who don't participate and may in fact go purposely against the agreements made by others.

But that wouldn't mean failure! It would mean only that not 100% of the residents would agree to abide by it. Only 80%, or 95%, or 60%! (One hopes.)

That would then mean that 60% of the area is going along with the general idea, which is better than 0% due to NO general idea!

I think it will work out nicely this way, if they don't get too strict with their bylaws.

thanks

we did start a residents association... for me, it seemed like the easiest way to get to know my neighbours.

But soon I'll be inviting people over for Sunday Lunch, and arranging rota's for the school run , and who takes little Stu to the ballgame

:-)
