Why on Earth would my characted go from male to female during a teleport when I did nothing to change the appearence?

The default factory-equipped avatar is a really ugly girl named Ruth. All avatars start out as her when they log in or teleport until all your custom avatar metrics get around to being sent out. Unfortunately, sometimes when you teleport that never happens, and you get stuck as Ruth forever! Well, not forever, really. You can right-click on yourself and hit Appearance, then CANCEL APPEARANCE WITHOUT SAVING CHANGES and you'll revert back. If you save changes you'll be Ruth forever. You can also relog. Yes, it is annoying. _____________________

It's called getting ruthed. The base female shape (yes, we are all women in SL
 ) is called Ruth. Just relog when it happens_____________________

Nick I've had people fly through me on my way home from telehubs and come out a different color, with different hair, diff eye color -- kind of a shock. Now I have an INSTANT CHANGE folder to drag onto myself if it happens again... skin, shape, clothes, everything... _____________________
SL used to be a game -- now it's a corporate advertising/marketing platform.

The easiest way to get unRuthed is to change your active group. No need to muck about with appearance or AV folders. Or cross a sim boundry. Both of these actions causes your AV to reset. Sort of like rebooting it. Works when all anyone can see is you attachements too. |

I met someone in the Shelter who had experienced the "Ruthing" problem...having read this thread earlier in the day, I told him about the "Change Appearance" trick to reset, but I hadn't read the posts about the Groups or sim-boundary crossing tricks yet. I'll have to keep those in mind... |

If anyone has a solid repro for being Ruthed, please let me know... because it happens to me on occasion with really bad packet loss, but I've not found a more reliable way to "induce" the ghost of Ruth (and how vengeful she can be!). _____________________

I used to have it happen a lot, Torley. Back when I was new and TPing like mad to moneytrees on runs (ah, the good old days). I usually Ruthed during heavy lag and while flying. Not usre if there's a connection to the fling or not. Not tried to induce it lately (I've learmed a bit of patience to jsut let things rez a second now heh), but I think if you TP fast and take off without letting things rez fully, TP again, wash-rinse-repate, you should be able to induce it. I'd try it, but the thought of being permanently Ruthed.....*shudders* That poor girl. Her parents should ahve kept her from the farm equipment. ~Jessy _____________________
