I'm new to SL..
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any tips or good information on becoming a DJ in SL..?
And, also, what is your opinion of the standard of DJs throughout SL? I've come across one or two so far that seem to know what they're doing and have a fair grasp of the music genre they're supposed to be playing, but for the most part I've been kind of disappointed in the quality of the playlists at some of the clubs.
Honestly, I'm not trying to bitch and complain, I am just very interested in this area and would like to hear others advice/experience/opinions/etc.

Lecktor Hannibal runs a lil radio station - and he got me up and running with only a few lil hiccups - for the most part he knows his poop and is quite helpful.
For the second part.. all I can say is ... I ROCK!
Siggy.

Yes, if he can get a total cretin like me to DJ stuff, it can't possibly be very complicated.
And I rock AND suck. Everybody hates what I play, but i'm am very knowledgeable about it.

I don't have any helpful advice about becomming a DJ, (except to say talk to Lecktor Hannibal or Aeguvas Ritter or Trimming Hedges) but I will say this.. The main thing I look for in a SL DJ is originality. If a DJ is just loading up the same old techno/trance mp3s as every other techno/trance DJ, it doesn't interest me at all. Not my type of music, so unless the DJ is very personable, it gives me no reason to listen. This seems to make up about 80% of the DJs I've heard in SL, so I usually don't bother. Also, find good mix of music and interaction. There's a line between being interactive, and forcing people to listen to your (often drunken) ramblings for 10 minutes between every block of songs. I don't know about anyone else, but watching my av dance to someone blathering on about themselves looks silly to me. I can check out Shoutcast and stream just about any type of music I care to, so if a DJ isn't offering up anything but more of the same, there's really no reason to listen.

IM Arito Cotton. Awesome Luskwood DJ, even though he's always telling people he sucks. I'm sure he'd be more than willing to give you some helpful pointers.

I dislike when a DJ talks too damn much and the women who are all humping the mic and all giggly and like OMG I sound horrible (when they are doing their best phone sex voice) ...reminds me of old school Valley Girls. Just play the music geesh.
