Relay for Life's fiasco downtime due to unforseen bugs from a patch has showed that patches right before major SL events is a risky idea.

SLCC is perhaps the biggest event this year, is on many many peoples' radars of things to watch, and it would be big negative publicity if SL were to have bugs this weekend marr events caused by bugs introduced by a patch.

Therefore, I urge Linden Lab to postpone this patch until after SLCC.

Please vote yes or no supporting the postponement of the planned patch, and add comments.

I'm thunkin that glutting land, terminating dwell payments, executing weekly updates, shutting down the forums, et. al. are deliberate methods meant to fray the nerves of common users in the interest of steady experimentation with the knowledge that die hard beta testers and entertainment junkies will continue participating through the development process no matter what condition the grid is in at any point in time.

So no, gwon with the updates. Shred the grid. We'll hack at it and shovel input til y'all have it fixed enough to shred it again. One day Second Life will be a functional world. Then all those people will come back. Well unless self hosted virtual worlds based on distributed gridding are a dime a dozen by then. I suppose that's a gamble LL has to take.

You might be on to something here, Khamon. That sounds about right, anymore.

If I had money spare to bet (just bought land so no), I would bet that this weekend's events will be the target of at least one grid-crashing griefer attack.

Think about it... minimal Lindens on duty back at the office, probably the biggest exposure event of the year, the best opportunity to embarrass Linden Lab and show up the fragility of their product.

What better opportunity? I was in-world at a sandbox earlier and a number of people with griefer sounding group tags were playing about with particle weapons.

This is going to be an interesting weekend. Very interesting indeed.

The update for the 16th is called off, according to the Blogs. On the following Wednesday 1.12 is scheduled to be released. Then no worse than one release every other week.

Hahahah,

I think this was a matter of Linden Lab coming up with the same idea at the same time. As much as I'd like to claim responsibility for the update being postponed, I think it was a matter of the poll going up at the same time or after the decision was made, but before it was announced.

Either way, thanks Linden Lab for postponing the patch so that SLCC won't have to deal with the risk of fresh bugs!

Yes!

Nevermind that we have all been screaming out for it to stop for months! Funny they decide to take action when it benefits them? No?

Now all we need them to do is move it to a more convenient time on alternate patches that doesn't screw most of Europe every time, and we can all be happy.

Oh, and a more efficient patch updater so we don't have to download the whole 25mb every time would be helpful for those of us on bandwidth capped packages. Other games manage it with no trouble.

remember:
Did you know that the first Matrix was designed to be
a perfect human world, where none suffered; where everyone would be
happy. It was a disaster. No one would accept the program.
Entire crops were lost. Some believed that we lacked the
programming language to describe your perfect world, but I believe
that as a species, human beings define their reality through misery
and suffering. So the perfect world we dreamed, but your primitive
cerebrum kept trying to wake up from. Which is why The Matrix was
redesigned to this...

if it was perfect no one would play it? :P
