You know, I notice that all too often there are posts here about people who cause nothing but trouble, whether iRL or in SL. Sadly, that's just human nature, to be attracted to and stare at a flaming wreck.
Well.. this is going to be different. I'm thinking that there should be some more posts here that should advertise some good kind-hearted people that have done amazing things, either here on SL. It may not necessarily be of the Mother Theresa grade of good works, but even something small helps.

Yeah. But then it'd devolve into another 'my friends' list and then it'd devolve into cries of 'bah it's just devolved into another 'my friends' list'.

On a positive note, free speech makes me happy. I wish I could be a bit more free with my speech in real life and tell some coworkers what I really think of them. With a hacksaw instead of words...

I like this idea Ironraptor, but the outlook is not good. The benefits of using the written word to cause trouble seem to be endless and the negatives are non-existent. Even the most extreme cases of belligerence have been known to be rewarded by fame and Linden exposure.

Just like the news media... good news doesn't sell papers or advertising as much as dredging the muck and slinging mud does. Ditto politics. No other language in the world describes politics so accurately. "Poli" meaning many, and "tics" being small blood sucking creatures.

Well I'll start the list with you, Ironraptor. Thanks for starting a positive topic, even if it devolves later. It isn't amazing by itself, but every little bit helps.

It's amazing that this thread could have any negative aspect to it. I say go ahead and post something about a friend. Who cares? Was this supposed to be advertising something or just "so and so, my most bestest friend helps all the n00bs!". That's great. Give people a shout out. Expect bias. So be it.

I believe Ironraptor wishes to have MORE positivity here, not LESS negativity, if that makes sense. Proportionally I could stand to see a lot more happy things in the SL Forums.

Well to those that actually posted POSITIVELY, I say, thank you. It may not be much, but gratitude goes a long way spiritually.
As for those who posted less negatively, mneh.. it's a start. Baby steps to a less drama-infested internet experience, yes?
And... to the lesser few? You are forgiven.
As Christmas time approaches, I just want to wish all those out there a Merry Christmas. It may not seem like it when you're fighting with your in-laws over who cooks in the kitchen, or when you're fighting for parking spots and introducing foot-to-face interactivity for that hot-buy Christmas toy, like a Roboraptor.. *coughs hintingly at those on his friends' list* But rest assured, the Christmas season isn't an idealistic holiday. Rather than simply shrug at human nature and continuing being an asshole at Christmas time, it may make it note-worthy to just put in that extra effort and be nice. Suck in that pride and just help for the sake of helping and not expecting anything in return.

Suck in that pride and just help for the sake of helping and not expecting anything in return. Very nicely put. Don't sweat the small stuff and try to remember what's truly important to you. I'd like to note the positive contributions that were added to the world this year by Schwanson, Ulrika, and the father of the prematurely born twin boys posted about in Off Topic this past spring. There are a few more whose names fail me atm; help me out with that, please. I hope all your babies are healthy and happy and that you enjoy your first holiday season with them.

Positive Postings
12-10-2005 06:40
I agree, I got into Second Life for fun and enjoyment and to get away from the stresses of real life. It gives me an avenue to be with good people, learn how to do things, maybe even build somethings to make a little linden dollars to buy the things I want. I really ejnoy reading the forums because I can learn from them. A lot of usefull tools, advertisements for things I may want, to see what is going on in SL. But, it appears they are so many people who want to create stressful situations. Hey people this is suppose to be a diversion from real life, why make it worse. Yes we need more positive strokes for people. I can't believe that a message like this has turned into more negative responses than positive ones.

I agree with you on that George. It's not enough that there's enough drama in RL as is, it seems people seek the need to import it into SL as well.
SL for me will always be a fun and learning experience. With SL I'm slowly getting the hang of texturing, something I absolutely dreaded before. It has always been a fun experience for me, because it's felt kinda like a SecondHome. And yes, technically, I am a furry. I go to furry conventions, but I do have a lot of fun there, and I feel like SL is kinda a virtual furry convention, not just because of the avatars running around, but the sheer fact that so many of those I know at the furry conventions I know on SL as well.
Not only that, I have met some wonderful people here that aren't furs, and they have been very friendly and many have complimented on my avatar(s) too. Something that kinda boosts my ego a bit. ^_^
