How truthful or cautious are you online?

When it comes to most online forms such as signing up for email, MMO's other type of places let's see how truthful or cautious you are. I will fill in my own answers.

1. Do you put in your real name? NO!

2. Do you put in your real address? Most of the time no. If it's a valid company that will need my address to ship stuff then yes but I don't use online services to shop.

3. Do you put in your real security code? No. I never forget my password.

4. Do you put in your real job when asked? No.

5. Do you put in how much you make yearly? No. Why is it their business?

6. Have you ever put your social security number online? No.

7. Have you used your credit card information? Yes.

8. Ever put down your real phone number? No.

9. What are your reasons for putting all of that information or not putting it in at all?

My main reason is, I don't think it's anybody's business how much I make, what kind of job I have, my address, my phone number etc.. Security codes are usually for forgotten passwords and since my password is something I remember and doesn't come out of a dictionary, I don't feel the need.

Why these companies ask such questions is beyond me.

I can understand credit card information if you are purchasing an item or real address if it's an item to ship but for stuff like yahoo email or things you aren't purchasing really, it's just a way to collect information from people for God only knows THEIR reason.

The government knows all of this already. This is just useless paranoia. :P

Depends on the whys and wherefores, if there is no valid reason why they need my address or phone number I enter a load of X's or 0's - since they are chars from the accepted ranges the sites owners give me a valid way around their questions.

1. Do you put in your real name? No, not unless it's a company that I need to purchase soemthing from. Then my name and address are usually needed to verify my credit card.

2. Do you put in your real address? NO, unless the above.

3. Do you put in your real security code? Yes. I usually choose a question that noone else could answer though. I just blindly take the open door that is Mother's Maiden name.

4. Do you put in your real job when asked? Not exactly. I may do a basic description if it is appropriate for the web site. But only then

5. Do you put in how much you make yearly? No.

6. Have you ever put your social security number online? No.

7. Have you used your credit card information? Yes. But I always check for the padlock that indicates a secure connection before typing it in.

8. Ever put down your real phone number? No. Unless I'm buying something since it can be part of the credit card verification.

As for why the obfuscation? Well, I put it this way, I get at most 2 pieces of spam per WEEK.

Dam so many of them would break the TOS ;) I get your point and when i say yes to these things it will be yes in relation to how relevant the question is to the website, or even the person that wants to know.

For instance i recently submitted my National Insurance number online to a government website, but i would not give to hotmail for instance, tho they have all my real deatils relevant to the sign up.

Q1 + 2 get to know me or do business with me and you wud have them
Q3 Government bodies only get that number as do any employer.
Q4 + 5 i would give if buying things online

Q6 well we gotta get to know each other first

Q7 u can have me mobile number when we get to know each other or i am doing business with you :)

Q8 its in my profile, well one of the many i have

Q9 tho to 12. I wouldnt tell my dying granny that information

Q13 its in my profile 17/11/58 nearly 48

Q14 London

Q15 Bournemouth

All this can be got from my profiles on line or by getting to know me etc :)

Depends on the day and the service. For example, PayPal gets my real info, because they deal with real money. Hotmail does not, but I answer the security question with an easy answer for me, so I can reset my pw when needed.

I will answer this to my personal aprouch. All my answers are about the same as the original post except these.

3. Do you put in your real security code? I use a different password for every type of thing. emails all have the same, mmo's use a second password, messengers use a 3rd. all forums and website logins use another one. none of these services use the same as another type.

5. Do you put in how much you make yearly? Well if they ask i see no reason why not to tell them. I'm not rich anyways...

6. Have you ever put your social security number online? Only if it's a website that ends in .gov. And even then i usually don't.

8. Ever put down your real phone number? Most of the time no. I usually just put all 1-111-1111. On occasion i might be registering to a service that i need to have contact me that way though.

9. What are your reasons for putting all of that information or not putting it in at all? Simple. HACKERS and FRAUDS! or as bush would say "terrorists aligned with the axes of evil!" :P
