Last Night a "Mystic" born late this May was badgering a "new resident" at my money tree. She wanted him to give her the money he picked off of the tree. She offered to take him to other trees so he could pick the money off the trees to give to her. Let me just say, I don't believe "Mystic" is a new resident herself, I truely believe this is just a new account.
OK so it is a new account, how ethical is it to take money off of money trees that is ment for new residents who have never had an account with SL before?
Another issue, how ethical is it to badger real new residents in SL to give you (an alt) the money they pick off the trees?
How rude is it to not even say "hello" to the person who sponsors the money tree and is clearly standing right there?

Maybe it is just me, but I banned this "Mystic" and her partner from my land (both new accounts) and I put them on the black list of my tree(love that freature).

My apologies to all the real new residents to came to my tree and was badgered by this person and or her partner. New residents please feel free to use my tree for your first 30days in game:) I am truely sorry for any grievances this person and or her partner has caused to you.

Sincerely,
KC :(

I can't agree more. Sadly, this is a result of LL's relaxed registration process, as Armies of Alts start to flood the grid in an unstobbable tidal wave. It is shamefull that said person tried to abuse the mechanics of the money tree, an object which is valuable for TRUE new citizens who need a few extra $L to get their virtual feet wet and get started in second life. I don't know what the solution is to the problem, but unless LL re-evaluates its registration process, I fear the situation is only going to escalate.

With no limits on new alt creation, money trees are now going to be totally abused.

Another sad result of the Linden's strange new 'dont give a damn' policy :(

Anything which checks age to give something should be treated as basically open access from now on.

On the other hand, "Money Tree Badger" is a terrific thread title.

Umm, yeah. Last week I gave L$500 to a money tree. This week, I'm regretting it. I won't be again. The real new residents will be the losers, unfortunately.

I didn't even want to mention minors flooding the main grid; that's a topic for a thread in itself.

This is sad.

I didn't need a money tree when I started. But that's because basic accounts had stipends and the starter money.

Now because of abuse, the poor new *real* newbies have problems because not only do they start with nothing, the money tree farmers are still around.

Even sadder is that the majority aren't builder/scripters ... thus can't subsist on L$ 0.

Even a lot of Yadni's freebies cost L$1 per package ... that's still infinitely more money than they start with.

the Find Menu, type in MONEY TREE under the places tab. Also there is an entire Thread in forums on locations of Money Trees:) Some of us hand out our Land marks to what we hope are real new residents.

You're absolutely right, funny how you can stand in the middle of Ahern and ask a new resident if anyone has told them about money trees and they have no idea what you're talking about.
Ahern one of the most popular places in SL, yet not many take the time to explain to new residents some things that might help them. Takes less than a min to explain to a new resident (usually) what a money tree is and how it can help them. Or give a new resident Landmarks to places that can help them ie: ivory tower, & yadni's junkyard.

Let's keep our fingers crossed for some changes and or limits on alt avatars:(

To those who will only help themselves and not others, I don't know how you can take money that obviously is not ment for you but for real new residents with a clear conscious. I certainly hope you feel some amount of shame for your actions.

Sincerely
KC

Don't worry. Newbies naturally ask how to obtain stuff ... then ask how to obtain money. Someone is usually around to supply that answer.

The funniest thing though was someone who passed near me IMed me. After the song-and-dance routine I mentioned above he found his way to a strip club and wanted to know how to get laid.

I told him, ask the people around you. He gave a surprised reply. I told him ALL the avatars you see are real people! That gave him a minor shock, and perhaps a pleasant surprise.

Had a hard time wiping the smile off my face. LOL.

I didn't find out about money trees and the like until well after my first 30 days. I did, however, find The Shelter and Yadni's. I don't think NCI existed back then.

honestly if someone is going to go through all the trouble to run around to 5 different money trees just for 15 lindens probably total thats left on them. Ill pay them 20l to spend just as much time or less to run around and say 5 nice comments to people that are fitting. Atleast then you can make someones day or have them think your a stalker.

I stumbled across a box for sale in a mall at $125 linden which sold noobies a list of money tree locations in SL! I was amazed at how disgraceful this ripoff was and IMd the owner to let her know what I thought of her sleazy money making scheme to rip off noobs.
