I have been in SL since April 2004. I seem to keep all the old stuff in my inventory. I still have my first pictures. I have like my first cars, even my first clothes, my first notes I got when I ressed from the help island.

I have 500 landmarks that are so old that I dont know if I should keep or delete. Some of these landmarks have a brown thumbtag and some have the red thumbtag, and I dont know what that means.

I have tons of old old old first first pictures I took with my first SL boyfriend. We looked so ugly gosh!! Is a matter of a good laugh. In this particular picture, my first boyfriend had this huge cowboy hat and we were sitting very ugly on Misty's give away event.

Memories.............maybe that is why I don't delete stuff from my inventory. But it sure takes a little bit to load all my 50,000 items when I log in lol

My first build was this funny chair. Someone was teaching me how to make it. When I res it out I am like WOW! WTH!

Then I design too, so many of those, I am a shoe and hair collector. OMG, my account will explode soon.

Is anyone like me, those oldies out there?

It not only takes a long time to load for you, it drags the asset server to Hell for everyone when you, and others with tens-of-thousands of inventory items, have your windows open, especially when you search.

Are all those memories are worth the lag and the risk of logging in one day to find an arbitrary third of it missing?

I agree with Khamon. Is it worth it to have to search through it all? Surely your time and energy can be better spent on a more manageable inventory. My suggestion, create a prim that will store pictures. Add another prim to store textures. There are storage devices that will let you store them in a "vendor" type of prim and cycle through them. Once in 1 prim, delete the original out of your inventory. Another idea is to store these storage prims on your land somewhere making a virtual closet.

50,000 items? Lordie sakes!!!

Hiii Palomma!! Willow Zander has an article on the pixel pinup site with some ideas for organizing inventory that I found SO helpful in straigtening out my mess.. someone there or here or somewhere also put a great suggestion that has helped me tons and that is BOXING up a bunch of stuff you dont use frequently. I boxed up all my old snapshots into one box and all my textures that I dont use. I also boxed up lots of no transfer clothes that I dont think I'll use but not necessarily want to trash either. I found that reduced my load SOOOOO much !!! You can make a box of landmarks, box of photos , etc etc that way if you do ever want them there still there without making your loading so slow yayy LOL.

I am a pack-rat.

Sorry.

I will try to clean up my act (which is not 50,000 yet).

Yes, I resolve to delete the 30 or so copies of Vertu cow and only keep one. (Last year, I covered a sandbox griefer with cows when he went AFK).

Ahhhhhh. I am feeling much better.

Hiyas Palomma!

Yes I still have my early memories, it's fun to go back and look at some of the old pics :D

I recently went thru and purged out all my old landmarks, all new landmarks are immediately sorted into the appropriate folder, then put on a notecard and the actual landmark deleted until I need it.

My photos are all on notecards, labeled by general subjects, again the original is deleted but if I need it I click and copy to inventory.

Yes... BUT...

Give us a way to EASILY get stuff out. If I could easily download my photos to hard drive in bulk, I could clear out a large percentage of my inventory.

Thank you everyone... lol

You guys got good ideas, at least you were not mean lol

I will take time to do that. I didn't think of making a box to storage all memories photos and such.

SL is so much fun that even the most difficult and boring thing is interesting to do.

I like the notecard idea with all the landmarks too.

I am still sure there are tons of us with a huge inventory like mine. The thing is to be organized. I know how to make drawers and stuff of course. Maybe is the time we all have to put to be organize. Just like in RL with your clothes, and old stuff.

In real I try to be organize also, especially I keep a lot of memories from my immediate family that are gone unfortunately. But those are keep in boxes.

So same here. I wish our inventories are better organize. Two years of stuff is awful, so much gets accumulated. Especially when you like to click the snapshot in every moment you do lol

By the way, I exagerated, I fetched all my items, they go up to the 37,000.... lol still a lot thou..

Anyway, thanks... I still want to know more opinions.

Well, what's the point of the feature if we can't use it?

I've culled my inv. count by simply sorting by name, and clearing out dupes.

Then I typed in a search for stuff I thought/was sure I had in multiple folders, cleared out those dupes, consolidated folders.

Next I bit the knot in my stomach and deleted "object", all but the most recent ones, which I checked over and actually, deleted all of them.

I ditched a lotta unimportant snaps, notecard/object invites to past events and old vendo systems and attendant accoutrement.

I still need to tackle my notecard folder (cowers in fear), but the above knocked my count down by a couple of thousand.

"folder-izing" my inventory does seem to help w/loading and w/my ability to find things.

Using the search function helps a great deal too.

The only inv. I am "missing" is stuff that asset server hiccups "ate". I wish you all luck!

As a tangential remark: I wish people would fully label notecards with important information. As soon as a notecard called "information" or "directions" goes into my inventory it sits cheek by jowl with many other directions and informations. A week later I need to find the directions for product A or delete unused notecards, and I have to wade through drifts of annoying notecards.

Thanks for the reminder, Khamon. Being somewhat busy (!!!) I click empty trash every time I'm logged on, but wait until a job wraps up before shifting folders to my alt. When jobs overlap that task gets shoved to one side. <--- *bad*

My Inventory

I hide all of my unused inventory on Khamon's land.... :p

JUST KIDDING.

*waves at Khamon

Actually, taking a few minutes several times a week to just purge items really does help over time. It is not such a big chore and over the course of a month or two you can really clean up up your inventory.

Content creators, contractor/builders, etc....should use a sort and store method of keeping their Inventory in some semblance order and control.

Give me all your ancient stuff! Including landmarks and notecards! Pretty please.
I want to scan them to see if I can find any relevant info for the History Wiki.
Thank you :)
