How hasp we reached such a level?

This was a barb in response to Invect Hasp starting a thread on bestiality. I thought it was in poor taste.

Later, however, he started threads on N'burg and "gorean children" - and I realized I was taking aim at someone with personal issues. My mistake - starting this thread.

Human nature? Compounded by the fact that when a person uses the internet and comes up with their own "online persona" which is apparently unencumbered by any (or very lax) real-world repercussion or consequence.

And almost all forums I've seen in one way or another seem to have similar problems. People say what they really think and mean, and arguments escallate much quicker as a result.

I have to agree with Logan. Also with some time-lag in communications, even slight misunderstands get way out of control before anyone has a chance to correct false impressions, and by then it's usually too late to fix things. Nobody's listening any more. Just being angry.

Fear leads to Anger. Anger leads to Hate. Hate leads to forum postings. Or, something like that anyway. I'm sure someone said it better.

My personal issue is for the thread on Age Play to die, or at least be moved to off topic I was making a mockery of it, and hoping to divert attention from that thread to my threads.

People were engaged in age play, I assume, before that thread started. If they weren't, they will be now with all the advertising the hundreds of posts have given it. The thread is likely to be offensive to many new members. I work with people who would most definitely leave if they saw that discussion in the forums . People who want to age play or whatever can go to a mature sim with a sufficient amount of land and restrict the land access and do anything they want in chat and no one would stop them. They don't need to go on and on about it in the forums, and those arguing for restricting it are wasting their time on practical grounds, the Lindens aren't going to restrict age play, they don't make a serious attempt to stop people from talking about peeing on underaged children at the welcome area or talking about how much fun raping babies is at the welcome area - those are two examples from yesterday of what the Lindens consider acceptable public chat in the PG area where new members get their first impression of Second Life. If they don't want people to hear that , if they truly consider that sort of talk, and much worse unaccptable, then they would allocate the manpower to keep an employee there all the time and close the accounts of people who do that. If they don't care about providing something approximating a PG environment at the welcome area where new users arrive they certainly aren't going to do anything about what people do in a state of privacy that the paid to have.

People do not need to "go on and on" in any forum thread, but they do. Many of us enjoy the discussions. If it is appropriate for Jeska to shut down the thread, she will. Although, I do know that she was very busy today shutting down other threads.

Either way, I find it interesting that you would engage in an activity you find distasteful in order to protest that activity. A bestiality post is also likely to be offensive to new members. As for the WA issues, that is best served by discussing that issue not through a tenuous link to threads that some find abhorant.
