I want to believe I can still build in SL...

I'm sitting in a mostly empty sim (less than 1000 prims and less than 100 active scripts) and I have zero bandwidth usage and zero packet loss.

But yet when I try to edit something, I am getting severe texture/prim pop.

I rotate a prim. It stays rotated for a few seconds, then suddenly rotates to an entirely new angle on its own.

I change a prim's parameters, such as the cut, and the prim starts twitching, selecting cut values I didn't even enter.

I select multiple prims and edit their texture, changing the horizontal UV. Half the textures I have selected start shifting their UV values and it all gets out of alignment.

I have been working on this build on-and-off for the last three weeks, taking frequent breaks because I have been hoping things would get better. But they haven't. In fact, they are getting worse.

Building in SL is like controlling a drunkard who's so tanked he can't walk a straight line. Or some shoddy game, where I spend more time yelling at my on-screen avatar ("No, go over there.... Now stop! STOP!";) than playing.

SL is what it is today in part because of the content that exists in the world. C'mon LL, give us creators a little bit of that Tao goodness before we get so absolutely sick of this laggy, hacky engine that we give up.

I was getting this regularly, until we found that somebody was leeching off the wireless network in the house. It's definitely a connection issue.

I don't know if you have experienced this, or not, but something funny is going on with textures. I can resize the texture on one side of a prim, and for some reason - kablooey - the texture in a different plane of the prim goes completely wild. WAY wider and taller than even the numbers I was setting the one plane to. This has happened more than once, and it has never happened to me before, so I figure it is some sort of a glitch.

I came in this morning, too, to find that this side of the house where I had the textures exactly lined up last night were - no longer lined up. I had to redo the whole side. Still don't know what to make of that.

Thanks Desmond, I'll just reply here as if I was replying to the other thread. :)

I've checked my cable connection. It looks good as far as I can tell.

Latency to my sim: 65ms average (peak: 70ms)

I ran one of those speed test dealies and it's showing my bandwidth is about normal (7.3Mbps down/325kps up). We do use wireless here, but we're using N with WPA-PSK security. (The only one in our apartment complex as far as I can tell, though everybody else here with AP is at least using WEP... :))

Nonetheless, I have been seeing a LOT of lost packets (according to SL), sometimes in the %6-%8 range. This occurs basically everywhere I go, regardless of sim or connection time. Today, however, I am seeing none. So I thought, perfect, great time to build, right? But, no... :(

What Coco describes is exactly what I am seeing when it comes to editing textures. If I edit a group of faces on a set of prims, sometimes different faces will shift randomly.

This sounds sort of like what I experience.

How are sim crossings for you? Do you rubber band going across them?

I stopped crossing sims.

Seriously. I try to TP everywhere when I can, because the rubberbanding is so bad.

I was hoping when I upgraded my system I could start working on vehicles, but after the 1.10 series of updates my frame rates have nosedived. :P

Heck, when have sim crossings not incliuded rubberbanding, falling, spazzing or the like?

I have experianced most of these symptoms for a while now, mainly since the new update. I rely on building and texturing on almost a daily basis for my income in SL, and recently have laid back due to these bugs.

Maybe the new 1.2.whatever will fix it, hopefully.

Okay, to give a better idea of what my building experience is like now, let me include a video.

Xvid AVI version

QT version

Both videos are about 4 MB.

Lag I could see causing some of this (even though you'll notice my packet loss meter doesn't budge once, and my available bandwidth meter barely registers anything), but why the heck does the cube suddenly resize when I try to rotate it? Even though I had stopped resizing it for a few seconds?

Why does the hollow setting suddenly jump when I resize it?

This is what I am seeing. I've literally dropped entirely out of build mode and watched my prims just twitch and morph and dance without me touching them for a few seconds...

It's like there's some hidden queue of changes I am making that are being built up and then applied sometimes out of order on the server.

My personal theory, which is mine, is that LL is running out of internet bandwidth. With in-world peak populations pushing 10,000, plus all the client downloads, forum reading, and whatever else uses it up, they're just plain running out of ability to shove all those bits out the pipe. I rather hope I'm right, really; that is fixable.

I've been experiencing this all this week, exactly the same problem. It's been driving me nuts. I had to redo some prims about 4 times. I've never seen this before either.

When I run WinMtr I see 2 per cent packet loss at sim1147.agni.lindenlab.com, border2.ge1-1-bbnet.sfo002.pnap.net, and the next one out out from LL shows 100 percent packet loss and won't resolve the name. The one that won't resolve has INTERNAP in it's name, if memory serves.

Did it again tonight, on the front of a prim when I was altering the texture numbers on its top. Just suddenly went all blurry. (Which would NOT be the numbers I just put in on the top.)

These are also some of the reassons i havent built anything in months. I use Sl as a place to chat now... Nothing else to do anymore. :/

Yeah it's not even changing it to the numbers on the face you're changing, it just wigs out.
