Hey folks, I'm new around here and have spent more time in the forums than in SL.
I have some questions that I cannot find good answers for anywhere. There is a SL FAQ but it is empty, I would assume that these questions should be in there but alas, they are not.
So, to help me answer these questions which I need to know because I do not, I require somebodys help. Thank you.

What is a greifer? Is it someone who causes grief?
What is a rez or rezzing? Something to do with scipting?
What is camping? Not tents is it?
I read about being "pushed into another sim" or something. What does this mean?

Thanks for your time and effort.
Regards, Korny...

You may like to have a look here at our Stratics "Guide to SL words and abbreviations" - griefer and rezzing are on that list.

"Camping" is a lame way of making money, which costs you more in electricity than you get paid for leaving your computer on, and artificially makes boring places look as if they are worth visiting.

A griefer is someone who amuses themselves by irritating you ... usually with weapons. :P
Rezzing is waiting for things to render ... "One sec, I'm still rezzing" means you're waiting for objects in your vicinity to load.
Camping is an arrangement whereby you hang out in one location and the owner pays you a very small amount for doing so.
You can be pushed by weapons or physical objects. Some weapons can push you very far ... if they do so in an upward direction, it's called "orbiting".

Exactly - a griefer is someone whose main enjoyment of SL comes from causing grief to others. This means that a) they're a pain, and b) they're hard to punish because they don't care about things like their reputation or being accepted by others anything like that - if they can cause grief, that's why they're here.

Rez can mean several things:
1 - To create an object in the world, usually by dragging it from inventory onto the world, is "rezzing" that object.
2 - When you enter a new area, it takes time for all the objects in the new area to be sent to your computer, so the area may appear incomplete for a while and gradually fill in. This gradual filling in is also called "rezzing".
3 - When an object has a texture on it, you may initially see a grey square indicating that the texture has not loaded yet. The process of loading the texture is also called "rezzing".

Camping is a controversial way of making money where the owner of an area pays you a very small amount of money, usually around L$4 for 10 minutes, in exchange for staying in their area (usually sitting on a chair) for a long time. This makes their area look popular, and increases its position on the in-world search ranking.

A "sim" is a region of the world - the world is divided into a grid, with each square being a "sim" (some online games use the term "zones" to mean the same thing). Each sim has a name which you can see at the top of the screen. Pushing is just that - pushing your avatar around to make it move. So "pushed into another sim" means that someone was pushed so hard they flew out of the current region of the world and into the next. This is usually something done by griefers to harass people. Also, because each sim is hosted on a different computer at Linden Labs, when you change sims a certain amount of extra computing work has to be done. Some griefers will attempt to push you so hard that you cross multiple sims so quickly that Second Life falls behind on the work moving you between them, and logs you out in order to stabilise things. If anyone does this to you without your permission, you should report them to Linden Labs using the "Report Abuse" option in the help menu. If you are unsure of who did it, you can open the "Bumps, Pushes & Hits" option on the same menu to see the names of everyone who has pushed you recently.

Another things about griefers: They use cages in areas that cages aren't acceptable by others. Most of them are really simple to get out of. Right click and chose sit, then stand up. Bingo, you're out. There is another type of cage, but most griefers won't bother as it costs L.

Nothing annoys a griefer more than someone on no-push land who knows how to get out of cage and AR. If you are Linden land, Abuse Report the person and then ask on Live Help for help in removal.

There's a glossary in the being-phased-out support wiki at http://secondlife.com/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Glossary#id388246 .

There's also a glossary in the shiney new Knowledge Base at http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/index.php?action=glossary .

Where is the empty FAQ?

--- non sequitor -----

there are ten sims offline at the moment.

I've seen very few places that give out this much. They usually give out around 1 or 2 L$ per 10.

I learned a bit from all your answers and it seems I was being greifed last night.
I went to a 'sandbox' to practice making things and it was getting dark. Lots of people/avatars soon arrived and giant robots and houses appeared along with some cool stuff. I was just looking around going "wow, look at that" and was set on fire somehow. That lasted a few minutes so I logged out.
Guess I'll have to work out how to shield myself or run faster.

"Setting you on fire", is done by a phantom prim that is scripted to move in the direction of your avatar. If you want to get away from it, just teleport elsewhere. Once you're out of range, (Usually no more than 20 meters.) it can't follow you anymore.

These things are ultimately harmless, but they should be banned from the sandboxes because they can be very upsetting to noobies.

I'm sorta not looking foreward to a havok upgrade if it meens making attachments physical. I can imagine giefers using their avatars as weapons by attaching a car to their hand and walking around hitting people with it. >.>

I suspect it'd only be for physical movements within attachment space. If collisions between attachments and the world were supported people could already do that. :)

1 piece of advice I have for anyone getting hit by griefers using objects to push or bump you around, rez a cube (or other suitable prim) or a chair or something to sit on, then sit on it, put in edit mode whule you are sat on it and drag it to a position in clear line of sight of them - show them that they are wasting their time trying to knock you around and that it is not working.

Sounds like something related to a certain talentless piss poor kiddies nu-metal band if you ask me.

Sounds like something used in a rectal exam.

Doctor: How you been feeling, Ed?

Ed: Not so hot doc. I'm having problems with the 'ol kornhole.

Doctor: Well, looks like we're gonna have to get in there for a look. NURSE!! Get me the Kornscope!

Sounds like something 10 years ago used at a metal concert in the nose bleed section, so you can get a better view of Korn's performances. :D
