Has this happen to anyone? I put some prim hair on, one that Asri and I were making and finished lastnight... I had "blonde" on at first, and I took it of to put "brown" on... 5 minutes later, it dissapeared off my head and all copies and different colors have vanished from my inventory as well..

There was a problem yesterday where items bought back into inventory vanished. Fortuneatly I found this out quickly. I imagine there are a few people who did not before the announcement message in game. Hopefully the items can be recovered. If not, ohwell.

Umm has this been fixed? I have already had items disappear from my inventory the past 5 mos. Now I see many people are losing items recently. I was not on SL yesterday so I didn't know this was going on for a lot of people. This is pretty ridiculous...

Sensual, I saw two in world announcments via the dialog box last night warning people. I agree though, they have to have a better way to communicate such things.
I think the best idea would be something on the menu alerting you of important notices. So no one gets trapped in between announcements.

ahh... see why we need better notification mechanisms? I was about to log in to SL, too. I guess I'll have to wait until later.

ok That was yesterday, has nothing to do with today, which mind you I was not on when these messages were sent yesterday... however I received an email from Cyn saying that they are stable and there are no asset problems today... so that does not explain why my stuff just vanished... and so the messages of yesterday and the announcement post has nothing to do with what just happen to me today! ugh I am so irratated I dunno if I am even making sense...

That was after I lost a radio, which I needed to move from one part of the sim to the other, by trying to take it into my inventory. I had two; the first one disappeared while I was in edit mode which is why I took the second radio into the inventory. Hopefully, the first one will reappear today as has happened with many other items I've lost in that area lately. I'm not entering a wrong number which sends to another location in the sim. Things just go poof and are back where I last saw them the next day.

I too lost a few chairs I was placing. I assume it was between the in-world announcments. I was looking directly at the chairs one second then poof... I thought I had lost my mind untill the second announcment came out. I'm glad they were just small chairs. What if I was placing say.... a tringo board?

Linden Logic
11-04-2005 17:03
From announcements: From: Jeska Linden Last night the asset servers began returning "disk full" errors when they were not, in fact, full. Unfortunately SL doesn't handle this condition well, so many new assets failed to upload. This behavior took everyone by surprise - we've rebalanced the load and are adding more capacity to the system, and haven't seen the problem since last night. We're working with the vendor right now to figure out why his happened and how to avoid it in the future, but I don't expect it to recurr. So let me get this straight: 1. "This behavior took everyone by surprise" 2. "We're working with the vendor right now to figure out why this happened" 3. "I don't expect it to recurr" Classic Linden Logic. Otherwise known as "blind optimism". That explains a lot. (I still love you Jeska.)

I had a prob during the rollback and lost about 2 hours of scripting - but that was the only thing like that I've found so far... I'll keep an eye out though for similar occurances.

It ought to be possible to make the warning about taking things into inventory occur each time you try to take something into inventory while the asset server is having problems.
In other words, when an asset server problem like this occurs, an assert server problem flag is set in every client, so that when you right click and select take, the warning dialog would appear onscreen, and would continue to do so until until the client receives an server ok signal.
This idea doesn't attempt to Sensual's troubles.

Specialized "Age Play" Forum
11-05-2005 07:36
This thread looks like it might never come to an end. The volume of support for discussion of this topic suggests that a proper home be made for its discussion. Accordingly, I propose the creation of a specialized top level forum devoted to discussion of "age play". Some would argue that this is a special interest topic, not a matter related to Second Life in general, and that it would be appropriate to file a bad post report requesting that the thread be moved to off topic, using the bad post icon, or the link MoveThisThreadToOffTopic but I think it's really important that new arrivals to Second Life be exposed to a non-stop discussion of child sex and the similulation thereof. so should have a special purpose forum create to house and honor this topic, one that appears at the very top of the list of forums for maximum prominence Given the widespread support this topic has received I suggest also that Linden Research begin a targeted campaign to attract those who are likely to find fantasy sex with the under-aged pleasant. It is my understanding that many communities make available lists of child molesters and other sexual offenders; these lists should be used in a mass marketing campaign to attract these users. Since their special interests are well served and held in high regard by the Second Life community they may well be likely to purchase land and remain as paying customers. NAMBLA, the North American Man Boy Love Association, might also be a good place to market Second Life's thriving child sex, incest, & statutory rape fantasy community at. If we work hard to target convicted sex offenders in areas where current Second Life members live we might be responsible for seeing some families reunited online, and even though the anonymity we employ here might make the participants unaware of it, the thought makes a warm spot in the heart anyway. The phrase "Age Play" is unclear in meaning to me, so I would like to propose the new top level forum be called something more descriptive like "Child sex, incest, and statutory rape role play"
