from the blog comments on the latest post:

"When we start up the grid we have to tell the simulators whether it’s a “test” grid or a “production” grid, since the code is the same. An error crept into the startup script and so agni (the real production grid) thought it was coming up as a test grid. The grid tells other services it communicates with what kind of grid it is, which would lead to those other services thinking “test” instead of “production” so things might behave in unexpected ways. And unexpected usually means bad.

Playing it safe, we thought an immediate restart was the safest thing to do to get back into a known state. Unfortunately that takes a fair amount of time end to end as the regions all save and reload - we hope to make that faster in the future."

So far, there claim of a quick restart has turned into an additional 2.5 hours of downtime and counting. The above might be the official party line, but I don't buy it.

They are prolly suffering from script "snap-back" and "rubberbanding" due to lag.

They keep changing a line in that start-up script from:

gridstate=test

to

gridestate=production

<save>

<restart>
<crash>
<restart>
<crash>
<restart>

Return to: gridstate=test(horsepuckeyagni)

I wasn't here earlier, but I assume sl was down being it's Wednesday. And now this again?

It never fails. Seems just about every Wednesday the same thing happens, the updates need updates, need updates, need updates, ne..........

Even Galaxies which was the worse never went down as much as this place does.

If it's any consolation to anyone, this happened to me a couple of hours ago ...

I was cleaning up sandboxes, and thought I'd pop over to Rausch to see what needed tidying away there. I'd forgotten to go into admin status and was immediately shot to bits. Sadly, something set my home location to Rausch, so I was being recursively shot for a minute or two until I had the wit to press Ctrl-Q.

Not sure if it still does but for nearly 2 years it went down *EVERY* day and every couple months they made major changes to how the game plays. Usually introducing bugs that make the ones here look like the features they claim and not the bugs they are.

and that has what do do with sl being down?

im sorry im missin the point of you post ms linden. if that was designed to show that even admins make errors then fine, in the meantime people are losing money dealing with another update that will need and update to fix bugs for the last 6 months of updates.

just shut the game down on wednsdays and refund landowners and people who invested a lot of time and money into this for that day. at least it shows you care.

Lighten up please :) I found the post very amusing and yes wednesday is a pain but theres to much linden bashing going on in my humble opinion and are we all that bad that whenever theres a problem in SL we cannot find something in RL to occupy ourselves with?:)
