I just noticed this glaring error in the Police Blotter:

From: someone
Date: Saturday, December 17, 2005
Violation: Community Standards: Indecency, Mature Content
Region: Gibson
Description: Wearing Mature attachment in PG area
Action taken: Warning issued.

Did they mean another sim??? Gibson is a Mature zone.

That's pretty interesting.

We're right next to Bonifacio, though, so maybe that's what earned the Lindens' ire. Oak Grove, too. I've observed some individuals partkaing in sexual activity near our fishing village, which is a stone's throw from the Oak Grove border. It's not really something I worry about reporting, as it's more fun to show up and start making conversation.

Furthermore, as Second Life goes to the Metaverse, and this becomes an open platform, Linden Lab risks lawsuit in court and [attachment culling] will, I repeat WILL be reverse in court.

Yeah, I've seen this before for the same reason; it seems if it's openly visible from a pg sim it's a violation. Which is kinda nuts, since with a decent draw distance you can see pretty much the whole of the adjacent sims and sometimes beyond. I'm not sure if there is some more exacting criteria to it, but it seems pretty dumb that not all mature sims are created equal and what is a violation in one might not be in another, and I'm surprised people haven't made more of that before now, too :)

Even when you aren't next to a PG sim, it seems to be a principle of the community standards that all truly raunchy stuff should be "inside". By which my own rule of thumb is: if they have to camera in, you're okay. (Of course, they can still see in if they try, but I feel there's sort of
an implied consent there. Privacy might be an illusion, but if you "camera inside" someone's "screen door", it's your responsibility to accept whatever's behind it, to my mind.)

Gibson has some rather dark nooks & crannies.

Yes, it's a cyberpunk nod.

Literally, go into the heart of Gibson, under the water and into the buildings. There's this great theatrical sense of atmosphere, you can almost feel a camera pan over you as you walk under the scaffolding, but it isn't fake. It is so very real.

I'm a cyberpunk fan... actually, Nexus Prime in Gibson was one of the things that convinced me to come give SL a spin.

For the history of the city, ask a venerable officer in Tyrell, they have lovely stories to share.
