Ok so far this is what I noticed about the Preview grid:

-Water Ripples: great addition to SL if you have a GeForce 6600GT equivalent or better, otherwise rapes your FPS like Local Lighting.

-PTP Teleporting: F'n ROCKS! Can get anywhere and anywhere so long as I have permission to be there. Great for those really, really long trips. Won't stop me from driving around in my Dominus Shadow or flying around on my Marlin.

-Texture loading: BIG improvement, I'm glad LL is finally looking into fixing the 1.7 "Tron Effect." Preview is currently still using HD cache unlike my 1.7 setup using a RAMDisk Cache and its sped up quite a bit (can't wait to see how it runs with a RAMDisk setup).

-land ownership: Apperantly unless you have the available tier on the main grid, you can't own it on the preview grid. I contacted Adam Linden (he was the only one with his status showing at the time and no helpers were online for the live help) about getting my land purchase approved so I can experiment with the new land tools and this is what he had to say:

From: someone

Ron Overdrive: hi adam, is there any way for me to get my land purchase approved in the preview grid?
Adam Linden: no, stuff done in the preview wont hold up in the actual SL anyway
Ron Overdrive: yes I know, but I wanna experiment with the new land functions wich is why I purchased land in preview to begin with
Adam Linden: Ahhh, gotcha.
Adam Linden: sorry no can do mate
Ron Overdrive: may I ask why?
Adam Linden: Actual grid will be up soon anywa
Adam Linden: Yes, since you didnt have the teir at the time of the snapshot, we can't raise your actual teir
Ron Overdrive: isn't that not for another 5 hours or so?
Adam Linden: if we did that, it would effect your actual account
Ron Overdrive: ok I hate to sound like an asshole, but what was the point then of giving everyone 30k and putting land for sale if we can't do anything with it?
Adam Linden: but mostly, I dont know a lot about the subject of preview to actual grid conversion, and need to be careful that no changes are made which could result in an exploit or actual account changes
Adam Linden: well, just cause you can't do anything with it mate, doesnt mean others cant. You didnt have tier at the time the snapshot was taken, I can't do anything about that now
Adam Linden: I'd confirm it for you if I could mate, But I can't

Due to the fact I purchased 1792m2 and only had 543m2 remaining on my tier I was SOL, but I also noticed something wierd. My plot supported 820prims. I was like "WTF?" and so I looked closer and noticed that in Dore I was getting 2x the prims usuage. I also noticed in Oak Grove they had a simulator usuage bonus of 5x. From what I see they have infoHubs in/near those sims so I'm looking around at other sims to see what their bonuses are if any. So far my idea that its compensation for hub land owners is out the window as I visited DaBoom and Stillman, no one there has a bonus. I asked Adam about this and still haven't gotten a reply. I know I'd like to know if this feature is added into the main grid, who qualifies for that prim bonus (most likely whoever owns a business near a former telehub wich means bigger, laggier, and tackier "max profit" malls. ).

Yeah extra primmage isn't really a bonus if the sims' RAM isn't sufficiently increased to store them properly without dragging even more than the currently dismal average performance. If they have added RAM and tweaked the code, I'll jump for joy over an increased prim factor.

I'm gonna turn ripple on long enough to see it in production and say "oh pretty," then likely relegate it to local lighting status. Well, not quite, at least ripple works whereas lighting is a total joke in a basket.

I would the same, but not until I find out exactly who is eligable to recieve this bonus. I don't own telehub land and I would GREATLY enjoy a little extra primage even if my bonus was only 1.25 over normal (wich I doubt I'll get).

Yeah true, but if any water is above ground anywhere near you (whether you're looking at it or not) it still causes slow downs, thus why I put it in the same catagory as Local Lighting and disabled water ripple. All that fun stuff will have to wait until after my upgrading.

I would give my first-born for double the prim allowance and the server power to support it. :D

Hmmm... my first-born would probably give his Mom for the same thing.....

Regarding double prim allowance in certain sims, IIRC, I believe these sims have the extra allowance because not all of the land is resident ownable. I.e., only half the land is ownable which means the other half gets double prims and, therefore, the total number of prims for the sim remains the same.

Also IIRC, these sims have been this way for quite a while, the land is expensive to buy, and buying opportunities are rare.

I'm sure someone knows more about this.
