Not so much with a bang as a whimper... Pity, still, not wholly unexpected I suppose.

All depends...what's the subject of the ending...the SLC, the forums, or something else?

I don't know Doc, does it end or change... the whole world online is meant for changing, perhaps shaking the sheets in the wind, dusting out the cobwebs, and changing how it "used to be" is what is needed.

I like change. I hate it when things are static. We are all experimenting and trying things out - some things work and some things don't. There are things going on beneath the surface that affect us. I find it fascinating. We are in the early days of online life and it's all quite amazing. We can't expect the reliable and the dependable - what we have is something more rare and which will only be here for a short time. Anything is possible. All bets are off.

Have been online via various systems (IRC, MMO's, etc) for roughly 14 years now, and the one thing I've noticed is that change (and drama!) happens significantly faster here than it does in r/l. Trying to deny change is difficult (and fruitless) enough in r/l, it's even more difficult in online life.

Best one can do is enjoy the ride, because it's going to be bumpy and fast!

It seems that the result is that people are scattering to third-party forums. The thing is, because there are several of them, you might some people at any given one but not others. And some people won't bother and will just quit posting anywhere altogether. We're going to ... scatter somewhat, I think.

I'm not sure where I'm going, yet, as my main forum, but I keep forgetting some of the names. I think I should make a webpage that is just a list of links.

I have a site for just that sort of thing Osprey, though it requires the site owner to add their location as opposed to a simple links page controlled by the web host. Only have had a few people take me up on it so far:
